Torn pec muscle isn’t season ending but torn tendon would be - sounds like Jimmy will be the final arbiter
According to a league source, Donta Hightower has a torn pectoral muscle and is out for the year. Big loss for the Patriots

Good call.Ruled out on Wednesday. That is not a good sign. Both the knee and shoulder having problems already this year, not a great long-term omen.
Is the differentiation based purely on clinical exam or does MRI play a role?Torn pec muscle isn’t season ending but torn tendon would be - sounds like Jimmy will be the final arbiter
It can be tough to tell just based on physical exam, usually you need an MRI. There are exceptions where the tendon/muscle completely retract into the chest wall, but that’s the less common scenarioIs the differentiation based purely on clinical exam or does MRI play a role?
1. You're doing great work here.It can be tough to tell just based on physical exam, usually you need an MRI. There are exceptions where the tendon/muscle completely retract into the chest wall, but that’s the less common scenario
1. Thanks, I appreciate it1. You're doing great work here.
2. I wish we were hearing a lot less from you. I'm really getting sick of you.
http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/patriots/2017/10/27/belichick-says-patriots-will-miss-dont-hightower-and-off-field/itYwNkYsNaLGJj7UyJ09lJ/story.htmlAsked if the Patriots would place Hightower on injured reserve after the sixth-year player had surgery on Thursday, Belichick didn’t answer. He said that if the Patriots did so they would announce that.
The coach, unsurprisingly, wouldn’t tip his hand on whether the Patriots are considering trading to bolster their depth at linebacker or on defense in response to the Hightower injury.
“We’ll do what we think is best for the football team,” Belichick said.
I probably shouldn't be bringing this back, but want to thank Stitch for his clarity here. IIRC I also don't think anyone WANTED to trade Butler, but some of us thought it a possibility given how a) historically poorly the defense was playing, b) how little time Butler had left on contract, c) BB's trade history, and d) the depth at CB at the time.I don’t think the trade Butler proponents (I wasn’t one of them) were drooling idiots who were advocating to do so out of an abundance of overoptimism or excess depth at CB or “forgetting some obvious lesson” as your post suggests. They were advocating it because Butler leaving in four months and the rest of the defense was playing incredibly poorly.
I wasn’t a fan of the idea, but we shouldn’t twist the arguments of posters.
Good post - but it still misses context a bit. We often say BB does this or that - but it would be too verbose to always include the context.I probably shouldn't be bringing this back, but want to thank Stitch for his clarity here. If you look at past BB defenses, they haven't really had #1A and #1B corners. It would be Law and, say, Otis Smith, or Samuel and flotsam and jetsam. As we've seen, he's comfortable having a 1 cover a team's #2 WR and bracket their #1WR with a CB and a safety. Gilmore's rep suggested he'd function as the #1 and BB would make do with whomever's left in Butler's departure. Not ideal, but at the time there was a smoking hole in this defense. Now that Gilmore's down, I don't think a trade involving Butler is happening, but until the deadline passes, I wouldn't be surprised if he was if news emerges that Gilmore's back. I don't know how they view the evolving (devolving?) LB situation - especially given Hightower's departure. My assumption is they'll address any problem that could prove ultimately fatal if left unchecked and they'll tap the resources - draft picks, depth pieces - they have.
Finally, depth is great but it's always somewhat illusory. If you're going to deal, you're not going to deal from scarcity. The Pats carried 3 QB's last year. Obviously, Brady was suspended, but then Jimmy went out and so Brissett gets snaps - glad we had the depth. Brady this season is a year older and taking hits, but BB addresses the loss of Edelman by tapping into his QB depth to trade Brissett for a WR who can at the least give the position another body.
I'd suggest if you're going to crow and take a victory lap then you might want to be sure you're at the right track at the right time.
AC joint separation of some sorts. MRI will tell us the grade.looked like a broken hand/wrist to me?
That’s my guessAC joint separation of some sorts. MRI will tell us the grade.
When I saw this link text I got very scared that I'd missed something.
Thanks. The latest - as far as I know, Brady’s shoulder is fine

Dude that’s so fucked upThanks.
Now get into the Markelle Fultz thread please.
Reiss has speculated that he's not close to returning, and there have been rumblings he might not make it back.Whither Malcolm Mitchell? Isn't he eligible to come off of Injured Reserve now along with McLellin? I have heard nothing about him -- did I miss where he was officially done for the season or is he a possibility to come back? Would be a big addition on the outside.
Reports have him as NOT being close to a return. This is a chronic injury that he's carried since college.Whither Malcolm Mitchell? Isn't he eligible to come off of Injured Reserve now along with McLellin? I have heard nothing about him -- did I miss where he was officially done for the season or is he a possibility to come back? That raises an interesting question: assuming a) the first slot is McClellin, and b) Mitchell and Valentine seem to be equally healthy, which do you activate?
That's what injury reports are for.I'm sure it will play itself out.
I activate Mitchell. We have repeatedly seen how hard it is for pass-catchers to succeed in this offense, whether due to playbook challenges or lack of trust from TB12 (or both). Mitchell has shown he can succeed in this offense, health-pending.That raises an interesting question: assuming a) the first slot is McClellin, and b) Mitchell and Valentine seem to be equally healthy, which do you activate?
So BB said "The players who are eligible to come back may come back"? That's not remotely news is it?
The news is more that Mitchell was there and running. So BB said "The players who are eligible to come back may come back"? That's not remotely news is it?
Yeah, I totally missed that sentence right there in the middle of the article. I would have assumed that would be in the headline or at the top of the article to set the context for the article's existence, but what do I know. Mitchell coming back could be big for this offense since it could give Brady another big target for when Gronk stays in to block. The news is more that Mitchell was there and running.
Can't agree more. When Gronk went down last year, Mitchell stepped up big in the middle of the field, and was a key contributor in the SB51 comeback. I was really excited to see what he would do in his second year. Here's hoping he can come back and contribute in the 2nd half and the playoffs.Yeah, I totally missed that sentence right there in the middle of the article. Yes. Any 2 players on IR may return to the active roster after week 8.Can we only reactivate 2/3? Im unclear on these new IR rules
After being on IR for 8 weeks.Yes. Any 2 players on IR may return to the active roster after week 8.
This is great news. The way Hogan was holding his arm coming off the field I was expecting much worse.Ian RapoportVerified account @RapSheet
#Patriots WR Chris Hogan does not need surgery for his shoulder injury, source said. Just rest & rehab, out a few weeks. Reevaluate post-bye
My completely uninformed gut says he is back for Oakland...This is great news. The way Hogan was holding his arm coming off the field I was expecting much worse.
