He's not in Chicago anymore.I was hoping for a different Theo from Chicago
Thanks for posting, I missed that he only has 2 years in the minors before I posted whining about it above. At least they have a ton of control on him and he doesn't need to be protected on the 40 man for a few years. If they can find a way to get him to stop walking people he could be interesting. You may look at his age (26) and think he’s a meddling career minor leaguer, but he was only drafted in 2021.
Has plus stuff and doesn’t require a 40 man. Good article below.

Edit: nervmind see aboveYikes. German was not going to be in the organization anymore one way or the other, but would have liked to have seen someone who was either younger than "turning 27 in July" or had at least pitched well at AA or above.....
I was thinking the same thing. You get a major league pitcher and a live arm for guys you didn't want anyway? Sign me up!Listed by Baseball Prospectus as 6'3" 240 lbs. Interesting looking guy from the above article. So essentially for Barnes and German, both dfa'ed, they got Bleier and Denlinger plus a spot on the 40 man for Duvall. I think that's a pretty good return and good job by Bloom.
Bleier was in AA for six years (!) and seems like a valuable arm now. Pitchers are weird. Or at least pitching is. Anyway, there is no one way to the top. Thanks for posting, I missed that he only has 2 years in the minors before I posted whining about it above. View: https://twitter.com/SPChrisHatfield/status/1621598666736664578Red Sox announced they acquired RHP Theo Denlinger from CWS for Franklin German. Denlinger is listed at 6-3, 255 & was drafted in the 7th rd. in 2021. In 2022 in A+/AA: 48.1 IP, 4.47 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 66 K:21 BB. He’s also a blacksmith & has a workshop w/a forge outside his house.
Denlinger has a plus fastball, sitting 94-96 with big movement. His slider looks good on paper but in-person scouts see it as very vulnerable.
I’m not worried about him aging out of the team. Not for what he cost and the control we get. If he turns 40 sooner than German does and both are still productive I will admit I was wrong.Yikes. German was not going to be in the organization anymore one way or the other, but would have liked to have seen someone who was either younger than "turning 27 in July" or had at least pitched well at AA or above.....
He has all the tools"... literally a blacksmith ..." When's the last time you heard someone called a blacksmith figuratively?
Mondesi has always been a multi-tool player but has struggled to produce. Thus, it is the job of Cora and the rest of the coaching staff to help mold and define those tools. In this situation, they are figuratively blacksmiths."... literally a blacksmith ..." When's the last time you heard someone called a blacksmith figuratively?
Low-level arms with high-level names.Theo Denlinger, Taylor Broadway and Skyler Arias are all low-level arms coming over from the White Sox system in the last six months.
Yogi?"... literally a blacksmith ..." When's the last time you heard someone called a blacksmith figuratively?
I expect him to forge a number of victories for the BosoxIncluding that fire inside?
I don't know if I'd define German as a "guy they didn't want." I'd imagine they'd prefer him to Denlinger if all else was equal.I was thinking the same thing. You get a major league pitcher and a live arm for guys you didn't want anyway? Sign me up!
In that spirit..This should be Denlinger's intro music:

I'd like to know this too. Maybe it has really good break/movement but is very easy for hitters to pick up or identify out of his hand?Serious question, how does a slider look good on paper?
this is like an origin story for the main character in a bookSounds like an interesting guy. Some quotes from here: https://www.mlb.com/news/theo-denlinger-drafted-by-the-chicago-white-sox
Denlinger was speaking Monday night during his drive home from competition for the Madison Mallards in the Northwoods League, where he joked his teammates call him 'Grandpa.' Those teammates also could call him a blacksmith, a craft he has been working at for seven years, or Tatanka Hok Shi-La, which translates as Buffalo Boy and is his name as an adopted member of the Lakota Sioux.
...
There was also a time when Denlinger helped his dad’s friend, Henry, build a couple of decks and got to know him as a person. Henry, who Denlinger calls “chief” but actually is a lodge keeper, was so impressed by Theo’s overall being, he adopted him into the Lakota Sioux following a ceremony.
“That rarely ever happens, he told me. They rarely ever let in outsiders,” Denlinger said. “But yeah, he adopted me in. I’ve been very close with him ever since. He’s constantly followed my journey. Followed me and just given me prayers and blessings to help me get along and get through all the hardships I went through.”
Henry, who called Denlinger to congratulate him Tuesday, also gave him a buffalo skull blessed by a Lakota Sioux medicine man, Grover, on his last vision quest done on a mountain. All of these stories add up to the determined yet appreciative personality of Denlinger.
“He said the Buffalo Spirit is with me, and it will continue being with me,” Denlinger said. “It will help me fight through all this adversity and everything that is to come.
Serious question, how does a slider look good on paper?
I would guess it's as simple as being good enough to get A-AA hitters out but will not lead to the same level of success at higher levels.I'd like to know this too. Maybe it has really good break/movement but is very easy for hitters to pick up or identify out of his hand?
Massive fail. The answer is pretty clearly The Gypsy Chorus from Verdi's Il Trovatore.
You're forgetting the favor that MLB did for the Yankees and other franchises facing a roster crunch last offseason when they cancelled the Rule V draft allowing New York and the teams in that position to clear out the margins of their 40 man rosters. The result is that this year no one had 40 man roster space (and hence why Rule V sucked this year). Things will return to normal in a year or two. This is a good example of how much / how little value depth prospects have, especially ones that need to be on the 40-man. German was a top 25 prospect for the Sox, and one of their better pitching prospects and this is the return.
Will bring a new meaning to the term, "Tough as nails"I expect him to forge a number of victories for the Bosox
Could be velocity + spin rate + movement makes the pitch theoretically good but in practice, for whatever reason, it gets, errr, hammered.Serious question, how does a slider look good on paper?

Grover?Sounds like an interesting guy. Some quotes from here: https://www.mlb.com/news/theo-denlinger-drafted-by-the-chicago-white-sox

If you're talking about a comic book...this is like an origin story for the main character in a book
