This might be a bridge too far for the NFL/ESPN. Kraft won't be happy about this and I imagine he's already been on the phone with ol' Rog already.

You can poke a bear long enough, eventually it'll be the final time.

This is how ESPN plays though. They did this same shit during the Penn State/Paterno saga.

Did they track down the ballboy who sneaked across the field to slip some ipecac into Dono's gatorade?

And do what, exactly?

When is this "final time" you speak of?

I can't imagine Rog and the suits at headquarters are happy about this. It makes Goodell look like a buffoon and I really believe they all want the focus on the field now with the regular season upon us.

Coughlin deliberately left too many guys on the field to game the clock.  They changed the rule after the season, IIRC.

Of course, he looks like someone's grandfather in the nursing home, so that's all cool.
This is new to me. Can you explain or link?

I love the bit about the Eagles being perplexed at Brady carving their newly unveiled dime scheme they had never used before. Wow, so inventive! I'm sure Brady had never even seen a dime formation before, how could he possibly know where to go with the ball if he weren't cheating?
OT, but the fun flip side of that:  the refs themselves TOLD the Ravens what was coming back in January, and still there was nothing they could do about it even tho they knew what to expect.

This just mind numbing from Florio. Also shows that even one of the better journalists during this has learned exactly nothing.

We’ll be posting plenty of stories coming from the lengthy ESPN report that delves into the roots of Spygate and other allegations of Patriots cheating. For now, though, it’s important to present something that initially wasn’t fully presented in the ESPN story.

We’ll be linking to the team’s response in any of the various stories that flow from the new ESPN report. And there likely will be plenty of stories.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/09/08/patriots-full-response-to-latest-espn-report/

Perhaps I'm unnecessarily jumping on Florio, but lets remember that it's unlikely the Colts ever thought deflategate would get as much run/get the punishment  it do . So the OTL crew decided to troll through a litany of spurned players, executives, and coaches re Spygate in an effort to force RG to make up for his original sin in their minds. If I were Kraft I'd literally call a presser and sit down line by line with the report.Expose it for the bitter kicking rocks it is.

What makes you think they have any perspective at all?  I bet that anything that deflects away from Goodell's shellacking in court last week and puts the Patriots back in the frying pan as the cheaters they is ok by them.

This was approved by the NFL. Other wise ESPN would not have released it.

It's hard to imagine after being a mouthpiece for so long that the Disney corporation just said, "ah fuck it, let's alienate our cash cow for some extra viewers for a day or two."

So ESPN resorts to blowing an 8 year old story out of proportion in order to protect Goodell's image.  I haven't read the story, and probably never will, but I am curious about one thing:  does the article ever state that the Pats were busted for taping from the wrong location?  And that coaches openly admitted their attempts to decode other team's signals all the time?

This all started with "they hate their coach", and it's obvious that this is nothing more than a petty attempt to get back at Belichick's refusal to give ESPN detailed information about internal team matters and injured players.

Right.  It makes Roger's hard-line attitude seem justifiable in hindsight.

If the Patriots are truly this shadow organization the ESPNFL would like to paint them as, I look forward to when Kraft sends a hit squad for Goodell.

I really hope the Patriots release a lengthy statement detailing how recording signals was, and still is, legal. They were busted for doing it in the wrong place.

Then I hope they release a second statement detailing all of the other illegal practices done by other teams and just throw the whole freakin' league under the bus and expose how petty and sore they all are.

What they don't realize is how bad this makes the Wells report look.

The most difficult question to answer about deflategate has always been why would the NFL/Wells go out of their way to screw over Brady.

Well if a shitload of league owners really wanted Goodell to get tough on the Pats--and if Pash/Vincent/other NFL senior executives knew that Kraft thought poorly of them--well there's your motive for targeting the Pats.

Why not ? Think about it. ESPN really just went HAM on the pats. To be honest is there any incentive whatsoever to let them in the building? This isn't going against the league. It's fighting fire with fire. The giant microphone and unsubstantiated allegations can go both ways.

This league is a total joke.  My interest in it fades a little bit each season.  If it wasn't for pools, gambling and fantasy I might be done by now.  It's just a matter of time.

I mean, this is never going to end. It's been 8 years. The more they win, the more it will be brought up.You bet your ass that as much as "insiders" know about the Patriots' practices, the Patriots knows about other teams' practices. And other teams, by the way they've acted with all of these leaks and "opinions," have long been asking to be exposed themselves.

The Patriots will never do it because they're run by people much more patient than I am, but I would do anything to see them finally release an "enough is enough" statement and let other owners try to dig themselves and their organizations out of petty holes that their peers are throwing them into. The Patriots really need to start worrying about the Patriots and not the other 31, because the other 31, frankly, are trying to ruin their organization.

Edit: clarity

We know Doug, we know:

@DougKyedNESN
Why does OTL's report mention 2000-2005 if taping from sidelines wasn't banned until 2006? Also, taping opposing coaches still isn't banned.

@DougKyedNESN
The Patriots didn't cheat because they taped opposing coaches signals. They cheated because they taped from the sidelines, not the booth.

That blurb is damning to Goodell also. It's like the cabal of jealous owners is trying to force him out for screwing up the investigations against the cheating cheater Patriots.

That struck me, also. It's almost as tough on RG as on NEP.

So is  the real take-away is that the NFL and the owners are both paranoid and obsessed with BB's brilliance and success, and won't feel truly vindicated in those beliefs until either the Pats are caught cheating, or the Pats fall to league-level mediocrity?

And then they will triumphantly shout, "We told you so"?

I don't think you are reading that correctly.  As far as I can tell, all Florio is saying that they will be linking the full Pats response in any future articles, not the one ESPNFL edited on their website.

So the Patriots win because:
-Taping practices - no evidence but we all know it happened
-Taping signals - Admitted, not illegal before 2006. After 2006 they were dopes for taping from the sideline.
-Bugging locker rooms - no evidence but we all know it happened
-stealing play sheets - no evidence but we all know it happened
-Breaking into hotels / looking for things at the hotel - no evidence but we all know it happened
-Jamming radios - no evidence but we all know it happened
-Deflating balls - I think we've been over this one.
-Practicing with guys on IR - no evidence but we all know it happened

Am I missing anything?

Would it be possible for the Patriots to freeze ESPNFL out of the building?  I am quite serious.  This has reached absolutely ridiculous levels of lying and attempts at covering the NFL's backside.  There is no benefit to the New England Patriots by continuing to allow these jokers into the building.

What really blows my mind is the feature that was done on the Panthers with John Foxx where he showed of his fancy video system in the lead up to that super bowl. All organized by down distance, tendencies, calls, etc. Everyone has been doing this forever. Just cause he's better at picking out tells (hey troy ravenlocks, try not biting on play action) the pats had to be cheating? It's nuts. Same thing with Rogers and his over inflated balls. It's crazy that the pats have won enough that they are in everyone's heads. It's like starting the rumor that Clemens had the mound 4 inches higher when he dominated with the Yankees or something. No one can say PEDs in football cause that would kill the game. I'm down to watching the pats when they are on national because I don't live in Boston anymore and I'm really close to giving that up, too.

To be fair, they do say that some of these were confirmed by former Pats coaches/employees(Dean Pees/Dom Capers?).

But unless someone is willing to go on the record with any of this stuff, I remain skeptical.

At what point do they start reporting that the light house is secretly a mission control center with feeds from the opposing teams locker rooms and sidelines.

Wasnt there some backlash when they brought Josh back for the playoff run, after the Rams let him go?

And the positioning of the Pats' bench allows them to review plays on the EnormoTron, while the positioning of the visitors bench doesnt allow such a clear line-of-sight?

I think the "leak" of previously-unknown information - that the NFL suspected the Pats of taping over 40 games, from 2000 on, and not just the handful previously copped to - matches exactly the NFL's MO. However, Van Natta isn't anywhere near who you would think would hold the bag, by ESPN standards, and it looks like the ESPN report went beyond that, to add the vindictive and petty elements of having to "make right" for owners who were still pissed about Spygate. This should have been a slam-dunk hit piece, but the NFL even screwed that up.
