The 840 Pro isn't quite as good as the 850 but that doesn't mean its not better than 70% of the other available SSDs on the market.

or better ?
Same unit as factory refurb, no rebate for $30. Now in a Newegg mistake, the new version has a 3 yr warranty and the refurb is listed with a 5 yr warranty. Corsair refurb PS warranty is actually 1 year.

In addition to all the promo codes, rebates, etc. You can get an extra $25 off of any $200 purchase if you use Visa Checkout with promo code VCOJAN25

Antec GX500 MidTower case   after $15 reabte =  $25
Decent modern case, bottom PS mount, 2 x 120mmm fans with controllers, twin top mounted USB 3.0, fan filters. You're not going to find a case with these features for less.

A selection of Antec power supplies 380w, 550w with $15-20 rebates at good prices, in case you have an aversion to the equivalent Corsair stuff.

EVGA SuperNOVA NEX750 modular 750w PS after $25 rebate = $40
If not offended  by 'too much power" a decent quality semi-modular (the 2 connects you must use with any mb are fixed) that will do for almost any build at giveaway price.

TP-Link TL-SG105 5 port Gigabit switch   $18
Unmanaged basic switch, 9K Jumbo frames, Auto MDI/MDIX sensing (no need for crossover cable), metal case. for use if you have run out of ports on your router.

Gateway KX2703bd  27" LED IPS monitor   $160
Standard 1920x1080 aspect, besides 27" and only DVI-D input, a few things you often don't see at these bargain levels: power supply is internal, VESA mount. OTOH, Gateway is now Acer's bargain brand and the standard warranty is only 1 year.

LG 23MP55HQ-P 23" LED IPS monitor   $120
Yet another inexpensive 'standard' 23" 1920x1080 IPS monitor.  This time we have HDMI input only, external ps , but do get VESA mounting and a 3 year warranty.

Acer ATC-650-UR2P i5 desktop   $430

i5-4440 Quad  (3.1 Ghz)
4 Gig ram
1 Tb 7200 rpm HD
HDMI video
DVD burner
2 front USB 3.0
200 w ps
Windows 7 Home Premium x64
1 year warranty

You get 1 PCIe x16 slot but with only a 200w ps, limited to additional video that needs no extra power feed. One of the least expensive ways into a new Quad i5 box. Try to build and the cheapest i5 will run you $185, any legit copy of Win 7 will run you $95...doing the rest of any build for $150 ain't easy.

Anyone know a good way to get a discount at Best Buy or Sears? I want to make a fairly large purchase and was looking for some discounts.

My standard is, if you have a Discover card, Best Buy is in the 'Shop Discover' (or 'Discover Deals' or whatever they're calling it now)... so if you log into your account and go to best buy via that section, you get an extra 5% back

For really large, there's often 10% coupons to best buy in the change address packages you get from USPS

The post office has a coupon pack for people who are moving. I know they have a Lowes coupon, but I think there may also be a 10% off coupon for best buy as well.

Just request a change of address form and the coupon pack. They give them out to everyone.

Edit - too slow.

You can get 5% off best buy gift cards from cardpool.com. So if you combine that with the coupon, 15% off.

And if I use my credit card to purchase the gift cards, I add points to the purchase. Sounds like a good plan. Aside from having to purchase a shitload of gift cards.

You can also join the My Best Buy Rewards program (link) which gives you a $5 Best Buy Reward Certificate for every $250 spent (if you have a bestbuy.com account you likely already have one created). Unfortunately, purchases made with gift cards do not count towards the $250 threshold. Obviously the 5% off with the gift cards is better than what amounts to 2% rewards back with the program, but I figured it was at least worth mentioning.

Are you making large appliance purchases? You can definitely get some reductions upon request from the sales guys at Sears or Lowe's, and probably Best Buy too. If they don't do free delivery, you can try to get that thrown in as well.

Leaving in a bit to the studio :)
If you have the newegg $25/200 offer on your Amex card, the Asus ac87 router is down to $150AR + tax today:

promo code  VCOJAN25

While I'm not too familiar with the ac87 as I've assumed that it's out of my price range, the Asus ac68 is considered to be one of the best routers out there, and this one is the next step up.  It's tough find a negative review or opinion on the AC68 anywhere, which is quite a testament to it.

Their latest model budget grade, but even this now has a 5 yr warranty. Only issue some reports issues with RAID install under Win 7 x64 ?

Pantum P2502W wireless b&w laser printer    $30
mentioned only because we're approaching the 'Gillette' approach to selling printers: give the printer away to get you to buy the refills.  Pantum is a new brand of crap printers, no reason on earth to buy their stuff when quality brands can be found everywhere for little more.  This is a bottom end offering, few features, only one small paper tray so you can't even print an envelope or label without unloading, and you get a starter cart good for a whopping 700 pages,  but is the cheapest I've ever seen.  The refill carts are $42 and only good for 1600 pages and you'll never find them anywhere except on line...good luck finding rebuilt or generic carts for this obscure brand, esp since the carts use chips that disable the carts from being refilled. Add to this no driver for OS X Yosemite and lousy support...

I think you'll be VERY pleased.  Remember, it's not just free two day shipping on most items, you also get Amazon Prime Video which is very good, the Kindle lending library, and more.  At $6 per month, it's an insanely great deal.

i5-2400 Quad (3.1 Ghz) cpu
HDMI video out
4 Gb ram (4 slots room to add more ram)
250 Gb HD
DVD rom only
Win 7 Pro x64
extra low profile PCIe slot but tiny ps makes this very limited.
4 USB on front & 6 on back...all USB 2.0
keyboard & mouse
90 day warranty

This is going to be just about the absolutely cheapest way to run an i5 quad cpu.

You can download music to your device so that you can play it offline if you're using the Amazon Music app.  I haven't tried to actually download it to an MP3 file and do anything with it outside of the app, I imagine that you can't do that since they need a way to disable it if you cancel the Prime service.

I am 99 % ignorant as to iHardware, however I'm pretty certain your answer is no: per the recent discussion of M.2 formfactor options for the 2013 and later Airs: they all interface via PCIe, NOT standard SATA which eliminates virtually all existing SSDs in standard, mSATA or current M.2 sizes. BTW your AIR doesn't have room for either a standard formfactor SSD like this, or even an mSATA card, the only storage option is an M.2 formfactor card 22mm x in this case something that looks 80mm or even longer. No such drive is available commercially afaik with the PCIe interface yet, and you have exactly one slot so if/when such a card becomes available you may be able to increase the size of the one physical drive, but there's never going to be a way to get a 2nd drive internally.  For that you get to lug around a 4.5 lb Thinkpad.....

They carefully avoid telling us the warranty, I'm guessing 90 days. These have generally been much cleaner than Newegg refurbs.

(This week Newegg has a T410 refurb for $240, but it's a really low end config: same cpu, only 3 Gig ram (???) and 160 Gb HD).

Serious UPS, will hold up a big desktop & monitors. The price after rebate is excellent for this size and free shipping seals the deal on an item that weighs over 30 lbs.

Western Digital makes a 2tb in the same form factor that powers via USB, currently selling for $90 on Amazon, so for the same price you could get 2 of those and have 4tb instead of 4.5 - slightly less but only across 2 drives, and the WDs are reliable - I have several of these that have been in use for over a year with no issues.

I'm not sure exactly when the MacBooks upgraded to USB3, but if you're up to that - I've had zero issues using a SSD in an external enclosure via USB3 on my Air (it's fast enough that I run windows in parallels off of it, and it's still faster than my old windows machine)... I believe I'm using an MX100 in a random enclosure off Amazon

The lameness continues: the deals on Samsung & Crucial SSDs are 10 bucks cheaper than Amazon, the $52 Canon multifunction is a new low but it's their new ultra low-end model that eliminates all doc feed useful only if you desire the most basic of units.

Staples

Good sale on Canon printers:

http://www.staples.com/Canon-Printers/cat_CL167615?sby=1

Notes: Extra coupon code only good on inkjets, which you should avoid. Sale is good online or by phone, if your Staples is anything like the ones around here in New England, their stores now basically stock HP and Brother and have only token amounts of a few Canons, so best to do this by phone or online anyway. The prices on the low end b&w or color printers or multifunction machines are excellent. Unclear how long this sale lasts.
