I have the same top 4 as you, but do you really think Chandler has been a disappointment? He's been exactly what we should have expected, I think. Capable of making some good plays, but also drops a few more than you would like. I think he's a fine complementary piece.
He should be. But pre-season there was talk of Twin Towers and such with him and Gronk. Not that anyone expects him to be Gronk, but he's had fewer snaps than expected, only 136 yards total production in the snaps he has had, and in a game with injuries to both Lewis and JE -- hence one where I'd expect him to have a bigger role -- he had another huge drop. Not sure what his official drop stats are, but I thought of him as more sure-handed (but you may know him better from his Bills' days, so perhaps not as surprised).

I just got off the phone with my buddy and he says if they lose it would have been on Brady. I think Brady played great. Yes, he had turnovers, but that offensive line they put out there today might be the worst in the NFL. Did anyone doubt they'd win when they got the ball back with 147 left?
I mean, when it was 4th and 10 and Brady had just thrown a sure-fire pick that the guy dropped and they looked pretty incapable of gaining 10 yards, yes, I had a doubt.

Best part about this week... BB has plenty of shit to keep the team focused to improve heading to the Buffalo game. It wasn't pretty but a win is a win. Get Collins back ASAP and hopefully Edelman won't miss much time.

I did when Brady pulled a Peyton and threw a pass that is picked off 80% of the time. This coming on the heels of a goal line INT. Brady was also bailed out by his OL when he was stripped even though he appeared to be trying to run with the ball.

Up: Butler was awesome. I think Beckham pushed off on the long TD and obviously DMC should have made the tackle for a much shorter gain. Otherwise Beckham was basically shut out -- the one catch he had longer than a few yards was when they were in zone and probably expecting run on a third and short.
Ryan was solid on Randle. Beyond that the CBs were bad but some credit goes to Harris and Eli for making the plays.
Amendola was great, and I think he can be 90% of Edelman.
Gostkowski, obviously.

Down:
Brady -- he threw behind Lafell on what probably should have been a back-breaking INT had the Giants just ran the ball at the end. Wasn't great apart from that but the line and no Edelman was a big part -- maybe he can get reinforcements someday?
Run game didn't get much going.
Expected better from Chandler to this point in the year. He helps in the red zone but I'd have thought he'd do more damage elsewhere.
Refs were garbage. Apart from what's been mentioned they missed a clear hold on Hightower on the Giants third drive (the one that ended with the Jones stripsack). Should have been three and out.

Giants got most if not all of the breaks and an injured team still pulled it out. Hopefully Edelman can return for the playoffs at least.

I take back what I said last week when I argued that people had a reasonable argument that Justin Tucker was the All-Pro K. It is Gostkowski, and with his performance tonight, it isn't even close anymore. Dude is dialed in.

Ryan Allen with a bit of a step back tonight, his drops must be giving him trouble because he had no directional control at all tonight.

Ed Hoculi is slightly better than Jeff Triplette. Slightly,

This team is nails. Even on their worst day, they squeaked it out.

Amendola for many reasons highlighted here, but also for (probably just following orders) choosing NOT to return a very returnable kickoff before The Drive. Situational fucking football.

Butler for everything except that play.

Gilbert for that block.

Gronk for that catch. (And those other ones.)

Blount for trying hard.

DeJesus Built my Hotrod for bothering to look up all those middle names.

Odell Beckham Jr. (bitter Giants fan).

Congrats on the win. These teams always play amazing games.

GB's to:

Ghost
Amendola for being the Next Man Up
Butler

Brady gets the some good, some bad. Bad plays are inevitable; recovering from those with some clutch throws under pressure is classic Brady.

Down:
Defense let up too many easy yards to a team with an average offense.
Refs for that PI call on Butler.

Injuries:

It's time for the key OL guys (Cannon, Vollmer) to get healthy.

Edelman: it was an ankle, so I'm guessing the dreaded high ankle sprain. It shouldn't land him on IR even in that worst case, however. But it's a big blow with 2 big games coming up against Rexies and the Broncos.

I second those who chose Ghost and Butler. After the initial Beckham TD, Butler pretty well shut him down and not to give up on the almost TD play was a game saver.

Patrick Chung had a difficult game. I've loved his evolution but he was a bit slow in coverage.
Freeny was a disaster in coverage. Hope we don't see that much going forward.

I thought Chung played a good game from what I saw. But thinking a little harder that was mostly in the first half.

While I recognize the absurdity of saying "well he almost made a few big plays" Chung almost made a few big plays that would have upgraded his night from good to pretty great.

Butler playing huge was a lot of fun and absolutely vital. And Ghost, because my god.

I totally agree with the consensus of Butler, Amendola and Ghost. Regarding Butler, I thought a telling moment was the pat on the ass from Beckham toward the end of the game, as in "hell of a game kid". Regarding Ghost, is he as good as Vinatieri, and will they both end up in the HOF? I don't believe many kickers end up there but anyway, they've both got my vote

For me it's

Butler
Amendola
Ghost

I love the new and improved Amedola, but I sure hope Edelman is back on the field soon. If not him, then Collins. Too many star players are hurt and its going to catch up with them sooner or later.

Please pass the tranquilizers.

Shout out to Stork for the fumble recovery. In a game of massive moments, that's one that'll get forgotten.

I thought Brady was bad (for him.) The fumbles were a result of bad decision making, and he was a drop away from two back breaking INTs. Doesn't help the team around him is drained, but still.

Butler was incredible today. First play, whatever, he was a stud. The DPI call was the worst ever. All over OBJ all day.

I could kiss Danny Amendola on the mouth. Not just the return and catches but the super smart decision to take the touchback to save the clock instead of running out a shortish kick.

Brady. Bounces back from worst pass of the season like its nothing. Ho hum drive to win the game.

Also one for whoever Jones is for being the namesake of a recoverable broken foot.

While it was certainly good hustle by Stork it is mitigated by the fact that the guy that made the strip sack was his guy.
I also liked the obvious respect that Beckham showed Butler. There were reports earlier in the year that Beckham was a real diva and didn't respect his opponents.

I was very happy to see that because I really love watching the dude (beckham) play. Don't want to see him turn into the diva wideout a la TO.

Special game balls also to Coughlin/McAdoo/Eli for once again having awesome end game clock management.
Boy, isn't that the truth. Running a first down play that only took 5 seconds with 2:06 on the clock saved the Patriots 40 seconds. It was a good play. But the difference between a five-second play and a six-second play likely was the ball game. I think you have to run a play there that, if you don't score the TD ensures the worst you can do is run the clock down to 1:10. A five-second incompletion puts losing on the table.

OBJ and Butler are both second year players, it's not like OBJ is a wily veteran with a long pedigree. And of course if you compare their signature plays, Butler's was much more meaningful.

Well, importantly, he bounced back from that pass to throw an unnecessary low-percentage bomb that should have been intercepted. THEN he had a difficult drive that needed a great kick to win it.

I agree the fumbles were from bad decisions. He should have just ate the ball or thrown it away with the makeshift line. Lucky we recovered one.

On the espn.com/boston home page, there's a short video taken during an Orlando-Boston flight as Ghost kicks the game winner. 12 seconds worth of fun

I though it was a solid job from the defense today. They were really stout against the run. Yeah, they got carved up in the passing game, but this Giants team has a legitimately powerful offense. They get paid to perform as well, so it wasn't like this Pats secondary was going to shut them down. I was impressed at how they bounced back after McCourty / Butler's fuckup with Odell Beckham Jr.

After that play in the 1st quarter, not a ton of big plays from Beckham. If I'm not mistaken, the Pats didn't give up any TD's in the second half.
Going into the season, we knew the secondary was going to be the weak link of this team. Particularly, the 3rd CB. We really shouldn't be surprised that the Justin Colemans / Rashaan Melvin's of the world are getting torched. This is a team that is dependent on the pass rush to have success defensively. Today, they didn't have a ton of pressure, but they had just enough plays from Jones and Ninkovich to get the win.

Heh, people might want to take a gander at Gost's wikipedia page currently
His most common nickname growing up was "Beav"; he lost two front teeth playing hockey and had fake teeth that were too large put in as replacements.

^ This is awesome.

People complaining that this team doesn't have a 3rd corner back are kind of ridiculous. I don't have the time to look in depth but I'm more then willing to say that all but maybe a handful of teams do not have a 3rd or 4th corner back that is not a liability that teams can expose. I'm curious if the people worrying about the 3rd corner are also complaining about their gold slippers being a half size too small?

Yes. Teams can attack Coleman or Melvin.
No. Not every team can execute consistently enough to do so.
Yes. The pats need a better pass rush to protect their DBs. They need to play complimentary football.

They really miss Collins and Easley was a non factor today getting any pressure up the middle. Once the backup center came in I was hoping for a better push up the middle but it didn't happen.

I mean, all the whining about Amendola seems like such a distant memory. The dude jumpstarted this team when they were on the ropes and stepped in for Edelman to do Edelmanny things.

I thought Brady was pretty decent aside from a couple bad decisions. His INT throw was poor but it was also a pretty good play by the DB. He also connected on some big plays down the field which we desperately needed in a game like this.

As for the down, I can't get over how dumb Harmon was to trip up Amendola on the return. We ended up scoring a TD but if we settled for a FG or turned it over, he would have been a major goat.

The refs were extra bad today. There really appears to be a double standard with Gronk.
Butler was amazing. Danny was the key man on that last drive.
and that punt return was huge.
Considering how little respect he gets, Chandler still gets the Gronk like he's so big it's not a penalty if you do it to him treatment.

Thinking of that early shot to the head/defenseless receiver on one of chandlers early drops.
