If only Roy Nelson gave an OUNCE of a fuck about conditioning. He hit Overeem with some bombs and didnt have the gas tank to follow them up.

With Pettis losing, the lightweight division is completely wide open. Could get even more interesting if/when Aldo moves up from featherweight.

Dos Anjos bossed every minute of that fight. Pettis has a little bit of Anderson Silva in him in that even when the other guy is doing well I'm waiting for the moment when Pettis pulls off something crazy to win the fight; that was totally not happening yesterday, Dos Anjos left zero openings for anything to happen. It reminded me of the Dillashaw/Barao fight.

RDA fought that fight with a partially torn MCL and didnt do any wrestling for 3 weeks leading up to the fight.

and he still turned in that kind of performance.

Well, Pettis apparently got concussed early and hung in there even though he probably wasn't right for the rest of the match. IIRC a similar thing happened in the Dillashaw vs Barao match where Barao took a hard hit early on and just wasn't the same.

Wow Pettis lost every round unanimously. I need to watch this fight ASAP. The Lightweight divisions is crazy right now. There are four or five fighters that are legitimately champion caliber.

He said after the fight that he got tagged with a left cross early in the first round, and he couldn't see out of his right eye the rest of the fight. I'm not sure if that was the reason, but he got worked the entire fight.

Dos Anjos not having surgery on his partially torn MCL, rehabbing instead. He will have nose surgery though

"Rafael is on his way to Brazil right now to do a victory tour," Abdel-Aziz said. "He will do 90 days' rehab before training. Next Thursday, he is getting nose surgery. He fought [Pettis] with the right side [of his nose] completely closed and could breathe only 70 percent out of the left side."

In 2011 Pettis lost his UFC debut against Clay Guida and proceeded to go on a four year (dominate) win streak. We'll have to wait and see how he bounces back from the Dos Anjos loss.

Khabib Numagomedov'
been clowning Pettis pretty good, even predicting for weeks the RDA/Pettis fight would go down exactly as it did. Khabib beat Dos Anjos in April 2014.

"Because I feel Rafael dos Anjos when I fight with him," Nurmagomedov said. "Before fight with me, he smash five- win streak. He smash a lot of guys, smash Cowboy Cerrone too. And after me he have very good win streak, three win streak, knock out Benson Henderson. When I fight with Rafael dos Anjos, I feel he's very strong guy, but when I say he smash Anthony Pettis, a lot of people say, ‘Khabib says trash talk.'

You remember, I told you he's no true champion. I told you before, Rafael dos Anjos can beat him, I can beat him, and a lot of fighters can beat him. But all the time, Dana White say he's pound-for-pound king, he's one of the greatest. His coaches say he's Mayweather in MMA. I think it's joke, you understand? Now everybody understands who is who. Rafael dos Anjos, I, and Cowboy, and Michael Johnson -- these guys are top-four in lightweight division. Now Anthony Pettis go to the prelims."

That's a huge cut. Can she drop down that much and be able to go longer than a round before gassing?

Would she even have to? Cyborg poses the greatest threat to Rousey because she can actually strike worth a damn. It seems to me the best tactic against Rousey, if you don't have a gas tank and can't go the distance, is to chase her down and unleash a barrage of strikes obviously avoiding an arm submission. You hope one hurts her and you push her against the cage in a clinch and that's all she wrote. Think Cain vs Brock.

Also, from what I read, its a year away from happening.  She has a 145 lb championship fight first, then a fight later in the year at 135, then they're targeting early 2016 for the title fight with Rousey.  Thats a long way off with a lot that could possibly go wrong.

For some reason I thought she fought at 155. I know she walks around at 175. I guess given the time 135 is doable.

It's such a hard cut for someone as muscular as her, though.  This isn't James Toney dropping from a fat 240 to fight at 175.  She's going to lose so much muscle, and correspondingly, strength.  Look what happened after RJJ beat John Ruiz to win the heavyweight title, then dropped back down to light heavy to fight Tarver.  It was an even smaller cut in terms of percentage of pounds lost, but Jones was equally ripped, and even though he was just returning to his normal weight class he came out so flat and weak he lost to a far inferior fighter right after he'd accomplished one of the more amazing feats in boxing history.

This is what I figured, hence my first comment on it a few posts up. I assume that extra ten pounds to get to 135 would be extremely difficult. Even when she can rehydrate after the weigh in I assume she'll still be pretty weak from the cut. I was just thinking that it's at least feasible if she normally cuts down to 145 from 175. It still amazes me when Thiago Alves makes weight at 170.

What are some good, old fights that I may not have seen or should see again anyway? I'm thinking more Pride/WEC than UFC 1, but I'll still watch the really old fights if they're good enough.

I posted a thread in P&G about this.  McGregor has set up camp in Aldo's head and his having a picnic there.  I've never seen anything like the mindfuckery he's got going on.

Also, it's always funny seeing the wee fighters get pissed off then held back by normal-sized folk.

So Rockhold has to get at title shot now, correct? He just dominated a guy who took the Champ to the limit.

Can't wait 'til the main events.

Kyoji is exciting but I think he's taking on this fight a little too soon. Everything he does, Johnson does it just a little bit better.

GF, Rockhold vs. Weidman would be an epic, epic match.

Just really sucks. Squandering his prime years and his health and if this is true he'll be away for a while. Interim championship in the mean time. (DC)

We'll see what happens, but what a moron.  It shows how much raw talent and strength he has that he doesn't give a single shit, yet ragdolls all of the world's best fighters.  From what I understand, he doesn't train very much for fights - hardly trained at all for the Gustafsson fight, but every time he impresses.

I'd love to see Johnson - Cormier for an interim championship fight.

•ABQ off duty policeman identified Jones running from three-car accident. He was in a rental car. Marijuana pipe inside.
•No cocaine was found in the rental car Jones fled. ABQ spokesperson was very clear on that.
•According to ABQ police report, the vehicle Jones was traveling in ran a red light. Silver SUV, rented.
•According to police report, suspect fled then returned to the car to grab a large hand full of cash.

Police say he's officially a suspect http://espn.go.com/mma/story/_/id/12772005/ufc-champion-jon-jones-sought-suspect-hit-run-accident
"The case has progressed and he is now our suspect in the the hit and run that happened earlier this morning involving a pregnant female," Drobik said. "We are now definitely looking at him as a suspect."

What kind of fights do you like to watch.  Im a jiu jitsu guy so I always loved watching Murilo Bustamante. Igor Vovchanchyn had some good matches. The whole pride grand prix that happened in 2000 was good.

I love the first BJ Penn  v. Matt Hughes fight, but that fight was way crazier then compared with when you think about it now because most people did not think Penn had a shot. I really wanted Penn to win at the time, but was more hopeful than really thinking he would win.

Speaking of Hughes, his fights against Frank Trigg are good (especially the second one I think)

If you never saw Minotauro Nogueira vs Bob Sapp, that is a must

I thought Tank Abbot killed Steve Nelmark so you might want to youtube that.

Nick Diaz knocking Robbie Lawler down with a slap was great.

Also, if you want to laugh, check out the joe riggs diaz fight and then google about 1)how those guys got into at the hospital after the fight and 2)try to find the audio of both of them calling into an mma podcast describing the events

For a while, Pride had most of the best fighters. Shogun in his Pride days was really something special. If you missed him give Rampage a beating, that is one you need to see.

Lowest level of hell.
To further mikeford. Watch all of Fedor Emelianenko's fights when he was in Pride. Might have been the most complete MMA heavyweight fighter of all time. Also find some old Cro Cop. Before he was shot and went to the UFC. His beheading's of people are pretty fabulous. And the obligatory Rampage/Arona fight. Just for the sheer awesome KO.

What a battle between Browne and Arlovski. That's what a heavy-weight battle's supposed to be. Instant classic.

Arlovski actually said "I'm sorry" to Browne after the fight, with Browne going "don't ever by f*cking sorry... go get'em"

P.S. Donghyun "Stun Gun" Kim also won his return bout with a submission in the 3rd round. He really needs to cut out the wild swinging BS but he's so strong on the ground that he'll be back to the main cards soon enough.

Ummm..

Then Weidman follows up with a beastly come back against Belfort.

Weidman is a bad, bad man. Holy Christ -- this and the Browne/Arlovski bouts were two stupendous battles.

After the Pacman/Mayweather fiasco, nights like this provide quite a striking (pun intended) contrast.

Weidman is made out of oak. Most guys melt from the power he ate from Belfort. He manned through it and ruined Belfort with his wrestling.

My friend was getting on my case immediately after the fight, him completely eating up the display of Weidman parading around the cage with the Flag, asking "geeze why the hate on Weidman man?" (was kinda pissed watching Vitor fold so easily). Then Weidman chimed in with the whole stop doubting me stuff...and he had to agreed the guy is just a douchebag.

Pretty disappointed in Johnson's performance too. Gassing that fast is pretty much inexcusable in a title fight...which he'll be lucky to ever see again.

Condit puts on a clinic against Silva. That elbow pushed Silva's nose bridge into the back of his head and dominated the rest of the way.

What a machine Condit is. Not just the stamina but the arsenal of punches, knees, kicks, and elbows.

Love watching Condit fight, when he's going he's relentless. I think the injury may have been a blessing in disguise, his three fights prior to getting injured were all wars, GSP, Hendricks, and Kampman, and all three were Fight of the Night. The rest probably did him some good, he he had all kinds of energy tonight.

Not every Brazilian is named Silva, racist.

Finally watched 187 this morning. Despite his hormone levels Vitor is back to normal. He looked so much slower and smaller. Johnson has the hands but not the heart. If he was broken by DC like that he never deserved Jones.
