I had a very bad feeling off that corner. i didn't want to jinx it but I felt a goal coming. Wasn't off by much.

He's got some elite handles in tight spaces from the looks of it--first time I've seen much of him. But that skill always gets patience. Just hasn't finished a move yet.
He looks pedestrian to me. Not sure what he’s really above average at. Not super fast, not super skilled, not super clinical, has had a number of awkward moments failing to connect with teammates in or near the box.

Those smarter than me - why didnt Hoppe get some run? Sargent riding his youth accomplishments? Hoppe seems to get stuff done. Probably biased by his Budesliga highlights

This window, he needed to get his transfer stuff sorted out I think.

Berhalter seems to have heavily valued playing time, and Hoppe wasn't playing in the buildup to his transfer to Mallorca.

Was sick and missed time in preseason, isn't fully fit, and then finalized a deadline day transfer where he needed to be present for a medical, etc.

Imo the problem all night has been in the non Adams portion of midfield. They’ve been way forward and all the attacks are rushed with the first option taken. Would far prefer to see the CMs coming deeper with ball to feet trying to build play more than just trying to fire it to a midfielder who is already in the final third playing as if goals are worth more if you make fewer passes to score

I like Turner's distribution when he's rolling it out. He's fast and decisive there.

Too sloppy, heavy touches, poor coordination between the midfield and attackers.

Again I know it’s the 90th minute and everyone is tired but Reyna comes deep and takes a ball to feet from probably 30 yards and turns inside to try to play a 30 yard pass of his own to McKennie who is for some reason in the El Salvador back line. He needs to be 15 yards deeper presenting an option. He was really poor tonight and I don’t know if his positioning was a choice by Berhalter but all night he was way too far forward and not supporting

Meh. Sargent’s not the guy, and I’m still waiting for Gio to flash for the US.

Lots of time spent trying Dest on the left but either had too little support or tried to do too much himself. Could have used more straight line attacking, more crosses, etc.

It’s mitigated some because the players are much more skilled now, but not showing to the ball has plagued us for ages.
