How was Mac so decent in his rookie year?

That's what has me all fucked.
Me too.

But I’m convinced that the Patricia experience broke him.

And the failure of the offensive line has killed any effort to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.

He’s absolutely lost.

I’m not sure it gets better this year.

That’s coming from someone who’s been firmly on Team Mac.

McDaniels and a better OL
It's definitely more than that. Mac started to go downhill with the same OL second half of that season and he's looked largely bad even in situations where he's had plenty of time to throw.

Marcus Jones, Gonzalez, Judon, now Douglas—not only does the team suck, their only exciting players are hurt.

Henry being hurt/dinged up at the end of that year was an issue too.

Well what happened there? It's night and day, a body snatcher situation. Completely different.
My memory is that the play calling was very much designed to protect Mac from making mistakes or having to do much of anything. Lots of screens and short crossing routes, etc.

So his rate stats looked nice but it wasn’t sustainable as an offense. Now he has to operate like more of a normal NFL quarterback and has been exposed.

I don't think it was Patricia. Mac is deathly afraid of getting hit because getting hit hurts. When he thinks he's about to get hit by a real or imagined threat he panics. His brain is broken.

I'm not allowed to complain about the futility of this team as I live in Chicagoland, but I am having trouble coping with Patriots feelings that I haven't had to deal with since the Bush Administration.

This stuff honestly makes you appreciate the Brady/Belichick years even more. It's really ridiculous one team had basically 20 years of being Super Bowl competitive.

I actually can't believe it happened and we were lucky enough to see it.

He was 27th in the league in EPA/Play with win probability between 20-80% as a rookie, he did a whole lot of damage against the Jets, Jaguars and a Titans team devastated by injuries. He's even worse now, but he was a "play from ahead, strong running game, lean on play action" guy back then too. And then they tried to make him into Joe Burrow sitting in shotgun all game and it got worse.

We had 27 years of competent to all-time QB play too.

Did he suffer from that in year 1?

Maybe so, but I honestly don’t remember.

The changes in the OL blocking scheme last year (implemented by Patricia) sure got him hit a lot more.

Ha. Peppers did the right thing at the end by batting it.

Every team that has played so far this week, including Thursday, has had first half points. Except one.
