Maybe KC winning later cheered him up a tiny bit.
@JeffPassan: Edinson Volquez sent some teammates a text message after the game thanking them for winning it. He left after the passing of his father.

What a jerk.  He should have thanked them during the game instead of waiting until after it finished.

Mets are still set up well going forward. deGrom vs the bipolar Cueto, and then back to Citi Field for three. Plus, KC had to use their Game 4 starter tonight for 3 ip, which could make him less effective for that Saturday start.

Does nobody else think the Escobar play at first should have been reviewed? I thought Duda was really, really close to keeping his foot on the bag.
At first I thought so, but I think the last angle they showed was pretty conclusive he was off

I would hope so, but many of the met hitters have a phd in swinging at dogshit so it may work to his advantage. Maybe if he throws it underhanded we can get a run off of this legend.

Separate from that, I hated the decisiion to not let Lagares start at center. With kc you cannot afford a weaker d especially to keep Kelly Johnson in the lineup.

Just a ball kick game. Hopefully Degrom is ready to dominate and hopefully our star players Wright and Cespedes can make an impact and carry this team so we can allow familia to be human once in a while and not wait for Danny boy to save us.

It was a one-run game. I don't see any necessity or basis for assuming anything about the games to come.
Feels like the first win is going to provide a significant edge to the winner in this one.

I doubt it. Baseball isn't a momentum game and the Mets have the perfect pitching match up going tonight.

I'm not saying it's momentum, I think these are two very evenly matched teams and if they trade games, the Mets are going to lose because the Royals took the first one. Just a feeling I have, nothing concrete to support it and I'm still rooting for the Mets.

Not that it matters to anyone but him, but the second story down says that Volquez heard the news on the way to the ballpark. If he did, I can imagine him thinking that nothing would suit his father's wishes more than his son pitching Game One of the World Series. It's interesting to me the way all these contradictory stories are floated.

Reynolds reveals why he is a perfect match for FOX, saying "I think our game can be a bit boring at times." They don't like baseball, so they think they have to tart it up. Ugh.

I'm curious who Fox will put in the studio next? Charlie Manson?

He could be in the middle of D Day describing the action and still make an idiot out of himself.

You guys make me grateful to be stuck with Gameday and jazz on the stereo.
