I wish they had gone 3-9 so that Daz would have been fired instead of going 7-6 with a meaningless bowl win that provides some sort of superficial legitimacy to the program, but here we are. Landry's back, which is good news.

Decent enough home slate next year with VTech, FSU, and ND on the schedule but only 6 home games. The following games have already been announced. Not sure if anybody wants to do a meet up in Dekalb, IL. Fascinating place that is the home to barbed wire, hence why the high school nickname is the Barbs. There ends my knowledge about Dekalb.

    9/1 @ NIU
    9/16 vs ND
    9/30 vs CMU
    11/18 @ UConn

There are 12 games, so 6 home games should be normal, no?

Word is that the UConn game will be at Fenway so that is one road game that will be in Boston.

You are correct sir. 3 games at Fenway

11/18. UConn gets $1.125 million to relocate the game and gets 22,000 tickets. BC gets 7,000 and FSG gets 10,000 to sell.

    11/10 it's Brown/Dartmouth and 11/11its UMass/Maine

BC judged to have second worst recruiting class in ACC, by ESPN, only ahead of Wake.

Top recruit is AJ Dillon the 38th ranked RB. Whatever happened to OL-U?

I saw the two DL guys they got the other day. One guy has no offers (including FCS) except the BC offer, and the other guy has a few looks but nothing earth shattering. Up until then, they had no DL guys in the class. Looks like Pasqualoni recruited them. They may be major diamonds in the rough or they are just filling slots at this point. Doesn't look very encouraging but then again, who knows if these kids will be great or be busts. Charlie the Tuna used to have Top 10 recruiting classes at ND and his teams were at best mediocre. Its all about the ability to coach them up. Don;t know if they have that kind of staff. So far, there is a major ceiling on this program as to the level of talent and their development. The defensive side of the ball appears to be able to step up under Daz but the offense is seriously lacking. But this will be the second year in a row of a bad overall recruiting class. Time will tell. Tomorrow should be interesting.

You don't know if BC has the staff to coach up 2 star kids...?

    Of course we don't!

Martin Jarmond expected to be named AD. Confirmed by multiple sources, both via message boardery and legit (Pete Thamel). Young guy that was previously the Deputy AD at Ohio State responsible for a bunch of different sports, including football scheduling, and seems to have extensive fundraising experience at both OSU and Michigan State. Was previously in the running for the AD roles at Mississippi State and Syracuse.

From reading up on it a bit, it sounds like a total home run hire and a smart, calculated risk for a floundering program.

This is the first time I've felt anything remotely resembling "excitment" about BC sports since, oh, I don't know, September 13th, 2014 or so.

    Great hire.

Now fire Daz and Christian next year and hopefully in 4-5 years BC is back on track.

Agree it's a great hire: young, high-energy, minority AD with Power 5 conference experience. Only downside is he will likely leave for greener (richer) pastures in 4/5 years if he does well but hey, if he is the AD equivalent of Jags I will gladly take that at this point.

Who cares if he leaves for greener pastures? It means we're in a better position than we were before. We'll never be a destination gig. I've never understood that chicken little mentality of BC fans.

    Ditto....

We need an upgrade and someone who can come in and think differently. I kind of figured at the end of the day they would go with a P5 Assoc. AD. Very happy with the notion of a diverse hire and someone who understands big time college athletics. I wanted a CEO type but if you have to go the college administrator route, this is pretty good. I was fearing they were actually thinking about hiring the compliance officer from ND. Thank God, if this hires goes, that they are looking at the big picture and thinking like a visionary. About f'ing time. This job has so many issues though.... I hope he can turn this (outside of hockey) bleep storm around.

Issue #1.....look at that football schedule again and think about scheduling P5/G5 opponents in areas where you have alumni bases and you are recruiting ( IDK, you just grabbed 5 recruits in the last few years from California, you have 12,000 alums there.....how about playing out there once every 4 years or so, as an example).

    Issue #2....game day experience....need I say more

.Issue#3...and a big one....Fundraising for the athletic department. As soon as the IPF is built it will be obsolete. In order play in the P5 you need to feed the beast.. The only way is to raise $$ all the time. It makes life much easier when you have exciting competitive teams in your revenue sports, which leads to

Issue #4.....coaching hires. He ran football scheduling, was a former hoops player in college and apparently had a hand in basketball. Hopefully he knows a few things about the coaching world in those sports. Not for nothing but how would you like Mike Vrabel as your HC? I'm sure this guy knows him from his days at tOSU and Vrabel is moving up the coaching ranks, has New England ties obviously and would be primed in a year or two for an HC gig. He knows college football as he was an asst at tOSU and is indirectly from the BB tree. Just spit balling but you get the idea.

Oh I agree 100%, hence my reference to Jags. Yes, he was angling for an NFL job or whatever but to get there he had to make BC successful and he did (and became the best BC football coach of the last 10 years in the process, not that that's saying much).

BSF, Moose, Stapleton, others, put your money where your mouth is. Apply for BC Fan Council

    http://bceagles.com/sb_output.aspx?form=47

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Martin Jarmond, the William V. Campbell Director of Athletics at Boston College, has announced a new Fan Council for BC Athletics to assist in enhancing the fan experience at BC home football games.

Jarmond is introducing BC’s first fan-driven committee to gain a better understanding of the game day atmosphere at Boston College and to discuss possible areas for improvement.

“The Boston College Fan Council is a great way for BC fans to share their experiences, opinions and perspectives, and partner with us to develop recommendations going forward,” Jarmond said. “We value our fans’ opinions, and look forward to connecting with our fan base on a wide range of game day initiatives.”

The main focus of the Fan Council will be to create a dialogue among fans and Boston College Athletics to discuss their experiences on game days at The Heights. Approximately 15-20 individuals will comprise the council, representing different constituents and perspectives. Quarterly meetings will be framed around improving all aspects of the game day experience and creating ideas to increase attendance.

Applications for all interested fans are now open. Final selection of the council will take place in July, with the first meeting set for August.

Bates tried to add areas in which folks could pay a fee and gain admission to a tent where food and alcohol were served. It was an alternative venue for those without tailgating spots. I think they mispriced them and the interest was minimal.

Despite all the Daz bashing he ironically made a point. It was a bit overblown wasn't it? He also went on to state that if there was areal problem with looking at the sun in an eclipse why wasn't there millions of eye injuries every time there is an eclipse? Why aren't all the animals blind? A little nuts but in a weird way he made a point.

In any event, opening day is about a week away so I would expect him to announce the starting QB today or tomorrow. Game prep week will start on Sunday. You would want the starting QB to get all the reps on Saturday in the last scrimmage of camp. I am a bit optimistic that they can have a good season. I think they need to go 8-4 and I see that path as their OOC schedule, if everything falls the right way, they could be 4-0 (I think the ND game is the one "big time" game they have a chance to win). They could beat Wake, NC State, Syracuse and UVA and 8-4 is there. I don't see any more wins. If they can compete with the iron of the schedule and not get embarrassed like last year, it will be a big step and he probably keeps his job.

Bear in mind fellas, after the 2018 season, it will fish or cut bait for the Dazzler. Jarmond will have to either extend him or let him go. He can;t go into the recruiting wars with only a 2 year deal left. They will have to extend him at least 2 years if not 3. So the next 2 years are make/break for him. To me he needs at least 16 wins over the next 2 years or they cut him loose.

    Let the games begin!

Season opens with a win as the Northern Illinois coach is an utter moron.

BC goes ahead 23-20 with 2+ minutes to go.

Norther Illinois quickly drives to around the BC 24 yard line with about 1:20 to play. And the moronic coach then decides to turtle and run out the clock playing for a game tying long FG. NIU misses FG attempt

    Baffles me

I didn't see the game and a win is a win. Giving up 160+ rushing yards to Northern Illinois and no sacks is not a good omen. As I said I didn't see it so I can't really judge.

Pretty dull game so I dozed off a couple times. The defense wasn't that bad, they dominated much of the game with a couple big plays allowed. Northern Illinois looked like a below average MAC squad again. They had very little passing game.

BC definitely played with more pace, and Kobay White looked good at WR. BC running game was shit.

Thanks, BigMike. I hope when you say White looking good at WR means BC also has a QB that can throw a forward pass competently. Which is be a nice change of pace for a BC team lately.

I will say this for Hilliman his two longest runs were both called back for holding calls. I thought the Redshirt Freshman QB looked good. Not Ryan good but good like he will continue to improve and could be really something in 10 starts. He had the athleticism to get out of trouble and nice touch on deep balls. I think you guys are really going to enjoy the ride with him.

He definitely looked promising. He'll take his lumps in a Daz offense this year but could become a really good player under someone with more than half a brain. The OL still looks pretty crappy to me.

Not sacking NIU isn't that big of a deal, as they led the country last year in fewest sacks allowed with 8, plus they double teamed Landry all night.

a win is a win is a win.. I thought Brown looked real good 80% of the time, got happy feet a couple others, wish he looked at other recievers then J Smith more often as Walker and Kobe Beef White looked good as well.
Hillman drove me crazy, early on he was hitting the holes like he did as a freshman then went back to the dancing into the line from last year, I thought Dillon looked good in his breif chances and where the hell was Devon Jones who was solid last year?
O line a work in progress, Monteriero looked a bit turnstyle-ish at times
Landry has to get used to being double teamed like he was for most of the night, and the others have to step it up, Zack Allen looked like Arron Judge with the Whifffff on the long run by NIU QB in first half

i cant believe we won a game with a BC kicker going 3 for 3 on FGs and THEM clanking one off the crossbar to lose, thats OUR style

anyway a win is a win

Didn't see the game as other things were going on Friday night. Can only say that its a win. Looks like they found a kicking game which is encouraging and the the team overall appears to be a work in progress. We"ll see how the season plays out. Next week is by no means a lay up. Wake is better and this team will have to come to play. The next 3 games will tell a lot as to where this team is going. Wake, SBCC, Clemson and Central Michigan.

I would like to think they might steal that game in 2 weeks but it may be too tall and order at this juncture. If they win the games they should/could and are not embarassed, they would be 3-2 heading into Va Tech. The ceiling with Daz is 8 wins no matter who is on the roster. They won't beat FSU, Clemson and Louisville anytime in the near future, even though FSU has no QB at the moment. The balance of the schedule lays out as 4 wins, (NIU being one of them), one loss (Va Tech or ND) and the balance being toss ups. Time will tell but if they grab the ND win 8-4 is possible. Glad the season has begun.

If they don't beat Wake, this will be a losing season, no bowl and probably ends with Daz fired.

A lot to fix in a week.
