deep inside Guido territory
Lillard goes Milwaukee as part of a 3-team deal with Jrue Holiday, Deandre Ayton, Toumani Camara, a 2029 unprotected MIL 1st, and unprotected MIL swap rights in 2028 and 2030 to Blazers. Phoenix lands Jusuf Nurkic, Grayson Allen, Nassir Little and Keon Johnson.

PDX has to be flipping Jrue somewhere else, right? & maybe Ayton?

The Bucks are gonna be in deep shit in a few years (and double that if Giannis leaves), but man are they gonna be a handful until then. Lillard and Giannis are absolutely perfect for each other.

I am pretty confused from almost every teams perspective in that deal...I guess the Blazers did the best of the 3 teams?

PHX must have really wanted to get rid of Ayton. Portland can flip Jrue later for more assets, can have him mentor Scoot in the meantime.

Bucks improve a lot on offense, got a lot worse on defense. I guess Giannis squawking to everyone about leaving pushed them into high gear to make move

Here
Nurkic is an upgrade IMO over Ayton.
Yeah, the defense is significantly better for Nurkic, not that he’s anything to write home about. Pretty average on that end. I’m not sure he’s an upgrade, but probably worth a shot. They need more defense, plus they add a bit of depth.

My guess this is more about Giannis than it is about Dame.
Yeah in the same way that the original Holiday trade was more about Giannias than about Jrue. They somehow got even older with this move: Lillard and Holiday were born a month apart, but they also give up Grayson Allen in this deal. For all his flaws, he was one of only 3 players in the Bucks playoff rotation under 30 last year (along with Giannis and Portis).

Nurkic is not an upgrade over Ayton, but does enough similar things for cheaper money that he makes sense, especially if you think Ayton might be a malcontent. Nurkic's issue is he is never healthy, but he is a big body that can rebound and understands his role.

Dame vs Holiday is interesting. Holiday is THE defensive guard in the NBA and rarely makes mistakes, a hugely underrated player and a great guy to have in the playoffs. Dame obviously is an incredible offensive player that is one of the most explosive scorers in NBA history--but the gap isn't that big and there is a world where Milwaukee is worse.

So I'm assuming all the media smoke about Lillard not reporting if he goes anywhere but Miami is going to end up bullshit, right?
If it's not, his reputation completely evaporates. The Bucks are already a title team and were already 3rd in the odds to win this year (behind Denver and Boston, tied with Phoenix). If he no shows, his career is basically over.

A package centered around Holiday & 3 potentially very valuable Bucks picks is definitely better than any of the Heat packages.

This really expedites the Giannis decision too. It's basically this season. If this doesnt work, he's out.

If I were Brad, I would immediately reach out to Portland to try to get Jrue Holiday to Boston.
Holiday is incredible defensively but he's getting old, and man is he a fucking DRAG offensively in the playoffs. His playoff TS% with the Bucks is .476 in a solid half season size sample of 40 games, total garbage. For some perspective the last playoff rotation player for the Celtics to have a .476 TS% or worse in a single postseason was Pritchard in 2021 (.475 in the one series against the Nets). Before that, it was Rozier in 2019 (.439 in 9 games). Holiday averaged that as the 2nd or 3rd option, always facing single coverage. He has his regular season moments, but in the playoffs he's basically turned into Marcus Smart, if Smart took 18 shots a game. This is a massive, massive improvement for the Bucks.

He is definitely someone I wouldn't mind grabbing if Brogdon absolutely has to go.

Woj having to editorialize his Tweets to maintain favor with agents and other sources bothers me more than it should.

If Cronin can run a successful Jrue auction - and his market should be robust - this looks like a great trade for Portland given all of their constraints.

Is there a Jrue to Philly Harden to Miami picks to Portland deal that’s workable?

I know I know….Heat culture and Harden.

Miami seems like a perfect fit for Jrue. They can just deal picks and Lowry, done. It wasn't enough for Lillard, but should be enough for Jrue.

I bet Miami would love Jrue.

Portland doesn't seem excited about what they can offer but maybe for Jrue it's enough.

I'd love to package Brogdon, picks, and flotsam for Jrue. Less excited about losing Rob, especially with KP and Al as the only other good bigs. Feels like we need to keep as many of these injury prone bigs as we can in hopes a couple are left standing at the end.
