So far all these players would have been of no interest to the Pats...

Reiss said the Pats thought Rivers was too small and he was up to about 240... Connor was never coming here at 230.

Not to sidetrack this, but I just turned on the NFL.com stream - with them streaming the draft live, online, what's the likelihood of actual games starting to come soon?
Probally never, considering how much dough DirecTV gives them.

I bet they'll trade out again.

Ha! Warren, Jackson Graham... How'd I miss those?

More proof that I morph into Rip Van Winkle on draft day.

Eh... I'm not really impressed with this trade. There were a lot of quality names available, and the 2nd round pick next year is most likely a really low one. A high 3rd round pick in to a low 2nd round pick, when we have obvious needs? Eh..........
which obvious needs are those?
where are the roster spots coming from?
who do you expect to get beat out by whoever is on the board right now?

blocking TE and somebody who may or may not beat out Hochstein or Yates/Britt is the only openings on this team i can see.

maybe a OLB project that could beat out Woods. Maybe?

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, Godfrey and Connor would've been of interest to the Pats. You likely mean since the trade with SD, which still leaves Connor as being a nice fit with NE and no longer available. Still some talent on the board, but those were my two guys for Rd 3. Didn't think we'd get both (the planets would've needed to align), but either one would've been nice - Godfrey first, Connor second.

Yea, since the trade. and I do not agree on Connor.

Smith and now Cottom are different stories. Fuck on Cottom.

I wasn't a huge Connor fan but Reggie Smith and Brad Cottam seemed like guys at positions the Pats would be interested in. Oh well.

Are you serious? We have 3 outside linebackers on the roster, and that's counting Adalius. The right side of our Oline sucks. No one knows what's going on with Morris. Our 3rd wideout, Jackson, is full of question marks.

There are plenty of roster spots on the team, there's no real reason to trade up 10 spots for a future draft when no one knows how long the ride is going to last.

Most of what I read leading up to the draft seemed to indicate that Connor was considered too small to play inside in a 3-4 so I'm not sure how interested the Pats would have been. I suppose he could have been a fit at weak inside LB but it didn't seem that he was a great fit here.

Crable. Someone here hates him.

Nice to have an ILB and OLB now.

Reiss has a list of guys whom the Pats would be targeting today, Connor isn't on it.

Here
And they picked a guy right off of it. Crable jumped out at me as someone interesting who was still there.

My guess is you have to question his size and strength but the kid was a play maker in college.

I like Bell and Goff best of the MLB left. Could get one with the next pick, I think.
I'll tell you, I'm shocked that Goff is still sitting there. I thought he was as high as a mid first rounder early in the season. He's a local kid, from Lynn. His value must have really dropped at the combines or something.

NFL.com:
Crable reminds some scouts of Carl Banks, an All-American at that position for the Wolverines' arch-rivals, Michigan State, who went on to earn All-Pro honors during a stellar career with the New York Giants. The talented youngster has the same excellent read-and-react skills and playing strength, doing a great job of attacking the backfield coming off the edge that Banks showed throughout his college and professional career.
Evident by his 28.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage as a senior, the Wolverine has proven to be among the elite blitzers in the 2008 NFL Draft pool.

I'm loving the "getting younger on D" strategy.

The O is fine for a couple of years at least, and now the defense is reloading.

I like Goff also but he's been projected as a 4th/5th round guy.

In reading draft prep stuff Crable seemed to have mixed reviews. My guess is he is a guy who you just tell him to go after the QB on every play he's in there.

It's been said before but KC continues to have an amazing draft.

2nd round picks:

Jamaal Charles and Brad Cottam

Crable:

Strengths:
Has excellent size and a big frame with long arms...Very athletic...Fantastic timed speed...Nice quickness and agility...Strong and powerful...Terrific pass rusher and blitzer...Makes a lot of plays behind the line...Offers some versatility...He does an adequate job in coverage...Still improving and has upside...Had a big senior year.

Weaknesses:
Does not have a great motor...Work ethic has been questioned...Intelligence may be a concern...Slow to read and react...Needs to play with better leverage...Was only a starter for two seasons...Sub par ball skills...Pass rush repertoire is limited.

Notes:
Was a highly-regarded recruit coming out of the prep ranks...He could project to a 4-3 (SAM) or 3-4 scheme...A real interesting prospect with a unique set of physical tools...Presents a rare combination of production and triangle numbers...Talented but may need to be pushed in order to fulfill his potential...May have played out of position in college...His best fit might be a pass rushing outside linebacker in a 34.

Seems that a lot of hi weaknesses are correctable.

Strengths: Strong linebacker with an ideal frame…stout player with good bulk…has the strength to play SAM linebacker at the next level…good athleticism for his size…terrific blitzer for a linebacker…solid lower body strength…able to hold his own at the point of attack…does an adequate job covering tight ends, using his strength to jam them well…disruptive force in the backfield…

Weaknesses: Only two years as a starter…instincts are a bit questionable…attempts to use his strength too frequently…does not understand leverage use…can be sucked in by play action…not a playmaker in coverage…needs to develop a better pass rush repertoire…work ethic is questioned…

Overall: Crable stands out as one of the top prospects for the SAM position at the NFL level. He also fits the 3-4 scheme as an OLB, where he would be an ideal fit next to a pure pass rusher. He is a terrific athlete with a good frame, and he had a very productive season in 2007 for Michigan, with an obscene 28.5 tackles for a loss. His versatility and high upside make him a very attractive prospect for a number of teams…

KC has picked up a lot of guys but it's hard not to have a great draft when you have 6 picks in the first 3 rounds. They'll be an interesting team to see in Week 1 in Foxboro.

Funny...those 2 bolded are exactly opposite of NFL.com's report.

Gotta love NFL on Demand. They have player profiles for most of the top players. Crable ran a 4.64 - 40 at the combine. Great speed, strength and motor but concern about his relatively skinny legs and ability to fend off larger blockers.

He did seem to have freakish speed off the edge in the highlight clips.

Did they get a QB that missed? I don't care if you have Walter Payton running behind the old Cowboys offensive line, you can't win in this NFL without a QB. And Brody Croyle ain't getting it done.
