LeGarrette Blount and Aaron Dobson both returned to practice. They were limited. Solder and Bequette were out.

They will never see that fake punt coming. He says he is the best punter on the team so it is a good cover.dbn said:

Isn't that kinda deceptive? The league needs to make a new rule outlawing this kind of rule bending.Silverdude2167 said:They will never see that fake punt coming. He says he is the best punter on the team so it is a good cover.
It's more probable than not.mwonow said:

I am a little loathe to post this because people cannot help themselves from just pasting their irrelevant and boring 53 man roster breakdown into the thread without commentary or detail. Could we maybe try to not do that? It's stupid and not very insightful. But it's a fun tool to play with, so here we go.
The Pats Picker website is back:
http://www.patsfans.com/patspicker/
What could be insightful is instead of just pasting the 53 names into a reply spend a few minutes instead talking about the final decisions you made to get down to 53 guys. There are some seemingly well stocked positions in camp this year and some tough cuts will likely be made at RB, WR, DE, DT and the defensive backs
For instance, I chose to cut Cadet at RB because Bolden has special teams value and White has upside. Carrying 6 RBs seemed too heavy.
I kept 11 Defensive backs but only 5 LBers. That doesn't feel balanced. I think its more likely that one of Fletcher or Brown gets cut and one of the other LBers makes the club, but I'll be damned if I could predict that correctly.
My last four players cut were:
Cadet (already had 5 RBers)
Ebner (Aware of his special team's value, but Chung and Wilson also contribute there and Richards was added to the group)
Alan Branch (team invested recent draft picks here, brought in Johnson and Branch is a tub of goo that failed the conditioning test this year)
Zach Moore (Always thought he was an interesting long term project, but they invested heavily in edge rushers this off season)
QB (2) T.Brady, J.Garoppolo
RB (5) L.Blount, J.White, J.Develin, B.Bolden, J.Gray
WR (6) J.Edelman, M.Slater, B.LaFell, A.Dobson, B.Tyms, D.Amendola
TE (3) R.Gronkowski, M.Hoomanawanui, S.Chandler
C (2) B.Stork, R.Wendell
G (3) T.Jackson, R.Groy, S.Mason
T (4) M.Cannon, N.Solder, C.Fleming, S.Vollmer

OLB(3) J.Mayo, J.Freeny, J.Collins
CB (6) L.Ryan, M.McClain, T.Brown, D.Roberts, B.Fletcher, M.Butler
SS (3) J.Richards, P.Chung, T.Wilson
FS (2) D.McCourty, D.Harmon
ST (3) S.Gostkowski, R.Allen, J.Cardona
Total players: 53
I'm assuming they will get an roster exemption for Blount since he is suspended Week 1, and Cadet will make the squad instead of Blount. The same will be true for Lindley / Brady if Brady's suspension holds up.( . ) ( . ) and (_!_) said:QB (2) T.Brady, J.Garoppolo

I had David Andrews making the team as the token UDFA, though the 9 OL you have is probably more typical of what they've done historically. Chung kind of makes sense from a football standpoint, but they just signed him to a deal that makes him largely uncuttable. Per overthecap his $1 MM salary is guaranteed, and his $2.4 MM bonus would accelerate onto this year's cap. His cap hit isn't huge ($2 MM) but it would go up even if they spread the remaining $2.4 MM bonus over two years.chief1 said:My choice for a surprise cut is Chung. Due to the fact that Edelman, LaFell, and Dobson are out it forces Slater into reps on offense. I wouldn't read too much into it.kenneycb said:Does Slater always play WR in the preseason to give him something to do or is it just a matter of them hurting for bodies? He typically practices as a WR and appears infrequently in that role; he's an excellent blocker and runs well, so they can use him on go routes and the like, mostly as a decoy.
SF121 and RO are both right, but to expand on this, camp practice (at least the one I went to a couple weeks ago) is divided into individual positional group work and bigger team activities. For individual group work, Slater is going to get his reps with the receivers, sort of along the "to give him something to do" lines. Bigger group activities include punt / punt return / kickoff / kickoff return group work, which Slater would obviously be a part of, as well as more conventional offense / defense stuff, where Slater is probably getting more reps than usual due to the glut of WR injuries.kenneycb said:Does Slater always play WR in the preseason to give him something to do or is it just a matter of them hurting for bodies? Jeff Howe - Brady just went 12 of 14 during a 7-on-7 period with 8 TDs: 30-yarders to Slater, Gronk, 20-yarders to Gray, 10-yarders to 5 others.
Clearly he's distracted, how do you miss 2 passes during 7-on-7s?
I would also add that you want Slater to take the WR reps as normal because you never know who will get injured during the season. If he needs to step in during the season, having those reps in his back pocket would help him getting up to speed so to speak. He's in the meetings all year round obviously so he's getting the mental reps, but he'll get next to no actual reps in practice if everyone is healthy.Super Nomario said:SF121 and RO are both right, but to expand on this, camp practice (at least the one I went to a couple weeks ago) is divided into individual positional group work and bigger team activities. Brian Tyms is dealing with a medical issue that's been described as "not good." Brutal break after his best week of camp
http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/patriots_nfl/the_blitz/2015/08/brian_tyms_dealing_with_serious_injuryPatriots wide receiver Brian Tyms just had his best stretch of training camp, but it all came crashing to a halt in West Virginia.
Tyms suffered an injury that was described as "not good." A trip to injured reserve sounds like a possibility.
The details still remain foggy, but it's a brutal blow for Tyms, who caught five passes from Tom Brady during practice Saturday and Monday. He rebounded well after a slow start to camp that only featured one catch from Brady through 10 practices, largely due to a shoulder injury that sidelined him for about a week.
Tyms was present yesterday but didn't catch any passes in team drills. He was out today.
Jeez. Hope it's not something like cancer as the foggy details suggest something other than a garden variety football injury.Corsi said:
Chung has to be the SS. He's just not good enough in coverage. Obviously the best in coverage is McCourty so it's probably him. This is paired with a tweet I saw recently implying that he was playing RCB.lambeau said:http://nesn.com/2015/08/duron-harmon-viewed-as-one-of-the-patriots-five-best-defensive-backs/
Mike Reiss is reporting the most interesting development that he has seen McCourty-Chung-Harmon on the field together as part of the nickle backfield.
This has been consistent for the past week of practice and he speculates it may have staying power going forward. Can't say who's in the slot per rules.
Hopefully we know more soonDrewDawg said:I don't think people would describe cancer as an injury.
Does seem weird that there's no details out there.
