In general, it doesn’t matter to me how good a player an NBA commentator was when I watch him. Any veteran from that league has enough gravitas to be critical when it’s called for, whether its a role player like Perk or RJ, or a superstar like Shaq.
What Pat Bev did regarding CP3 was axe grinding combined with dirt on grave shoveling. There’s a big difference between normal criticism and that. It was entertaining, much more so than Matt Barnes’ defense of Chris Paul.
Yeah, I should also say... they both are full of shit is part of the comparison.
Like JJ Reddick is great, he's insightful, he understands the league, he understands the players.
Perk just shouts nonsense and pines for shitty interior offense, Pat Bev just goes after guys he doesn't like and wants to tear down stars while also trying to get people to tell him he's great.
Perk and Shaq are in some ways a comp, in that Shaq doesn't watch the games so he just spouts nonsense, where Perk I think does, but has no concept of how the modern game is played, which is weird since he's been out of the league not THAT long.
