It is not hurting ticket prices, that’s for sure.
Yeah, been coming every weekend over Labor Day for almost 15 years and this year is by far the most crowded. Every Ashe match is full and the outer courts are packed as well. I was really nervous that when Roger, Rafa and Serena were no longer playing that tennis would drop off. Not only has it not dropped off but the opposite is happening.

Just realized that Pegula is playing singles, doubles and mixed doubles...
She's not playing singles anymore. :)

Three of the four players ranked above Coco lost in the last 18 hours or so, Swiatek, Pegula and Jabeur. Sabalenka is the only seed left higher than Coco, the tournament has definitely opened up some although players like Ostapenko and Keys are quite dangerous too.

Pegula probably should have not played doubles...

It ended around 1:40, 4:41 match time, Zverev 6-3 in the 5th. Sinner started cramping mid-second set and couldn’t pull the match out in the end, good break for Alcaraz.

Coco about to serve for it at 5-2. Would be very beneficial for her to wrap this one up quickly given the heat...and how much she's been on the court the last few weeks.

Kidding aside at what point do you let yourself believe Fritz can win? Having two sets in the bag, and a break?
He had to serve perfectly and not make mistakes. That didn't happen which was expected. Novak now has 47 Semis at a Major and is a new record passing Roger.

The mucky muck
Novak wasn't great, but it was more than enough. Got a little pissy with the NY crowd at times, which is only going to get worse next round.

Though, hearing him sing Beastie Boys during the post-match interview might have won a few more folks over.

Fritz did take Novak to 5 at the Australian Open a few years ago but he looked pretty bad today.

Great point. Shelton is looking great tonight. Tiafoe is making lots of mistakes.
Tiafoe is playing better in the second set.

So much fun watch Bryan up in the coaches/family box. Really just an incredibly classy person. It amazes me that Ben is serving 10-15 mph harder than Bryan did. Some of that is better equipment but still insane. I was a pretty decent player in college, and hanging out on the other side when Bryan was doing his practice serves I maybe got 10 % of them back to the court, and that was knowing where they were going

I'd love to see a legit 12 year rivalry between Alcaraz and Shelton. Obviously Shelton has a LONG way to go to be in Alcaraz' league, but he's got the tools. My word what a sledgehammer.

Wow, Chris Evert competed in 56 Grand Slams and made 52 semifinals, that’s incredible.

Hopefully we still have some great matches coming in the semis and finals, but kind of a dud tournament so far. The eight quarterfinal matches would last a total of 20 sets if all were decided in straight sets, and in reality they went for just 21. Tiafoe took a set from Shelton, no one else even got past 6-4 in any set.

Gauff/Muchova
Sabalenka/Keys

Alcaraz/Medvedev
Djokovic/Shelton

Djokovic and Alcaraz are a combined 40-0 in Grand Slams this year against the rest of the world, 1-1 against each other.

Quite a career comeback for Keys, who hasn't been at this level in years if I'm not mistaken.
she did make the Aussie semis just last year (2022), but between the QF result at Wimbly a couple months ago and this run at the US Open, seems like she is fully back. Hopefully remains that way for a couple more years.

Especially compared to some of the epic matches we had last year. Hopefully Kyrgios gets back on track next year and can make some more deep Grand Slam runs but I'm doubtful his heart is in it.

Anyone know what’s going on right now, ie what the disruption in the stands might be?

I ask cause there’s usually someone on SoSH who is at these events…

Is this forum hidden from New Posts? I thought there was no tennis conversation!

Was also looking for some info on this delay.

Climate protesters have disrupted a number of European sports events recently, so that’s the clubhouse leader.
