I mean, this is all silly at this point, but this is too eye-watering to not share (just replace Caleb Williams for Jayden Daniels if you feel it's too unrealistic...he was also available)

I'd be disappointed with Walker at 71.
I don't recall what the board looked like at that point, but I share your disappointment.
Edit: IIRC, I missed a WR run and was after Melton, the CB from Rutgers.
Edit 2: Walker has been going mid third round and higher on the PFN mock draft engine.

Yeah the runs are funny, and it's possible that we'll see WRs vault up the real board and other positions fall. I'm hyper focused on outside guys with that first WR pick, since IMO Xs make everyone look better. Walker has all of the measurables, but he reeks of N'Keal 2.0 to me. Can't run routes, can't get off press coverage, doesn't fight for balls. I like Roman Wilson around there, but it seems that the word is out on him now and he might not be available in the 3rd.

If the Pats were ever tempted to move a next year pick to get another top-75 pick now, this is the year that I'd do it. I know that seems like crazy talk coming off a season like we just had, but there's so much quality OT and WR talent high.

So I decided to do a couple quick ones, but to do something a bit different (only going 3 rounds) which is to bold my pick, but show who else I considered at each pick.

NMDD-
3. Drake Maye (nobody else considered)
34 Kingsley Suamataia (considered... Ladd McConkey, Adonai Mitchell, Patrick Paul)
68. Ricky Pearsall (considered... Roman Wilson, Malachi Corley, Ja'Tavion Sanders, Jonah Elliss)

Overal thoughts... I think there were too many WRs left at 68, my guess is as we get closer a couple of those (Wilson in particular) rise.

PFF-
3. Jayden Daniels (nobody else considered)
34. Tyler Guyton (considered, Adonai Mitchell, Patrick Paul, Kingsley Suamataia)
68- Roman Wilson (considered Corley, Jalen McMillan, Ruke Orhorhor)

Overall thoughts... Guyton won't be there.

PFN-
3. Jayden Daniels (nobody else considered)
34. Jordan Morgan ( considered Samataia, Jackson Powers-Johnson, Paul, Xavier Worthy)
68. Ricky Pearsall (considered... Wilson, Kiran Amegadjie, Elliss, DJ James)

Ugh, Kool-Aid at 3 would be a tough swallow. How about Rome Udunze instead? That's kind of a cool name.

My latest go at this:

77547

Got the QB. Got a really good WR in McConkey (not an outside guy but him and Douglas would be a really nice 1-2). Tried to shore up the OL. Took a second crack at QB, figuring one of them will hit. Late round RB with real talent. No defense. LOLOL

That isn't a bad draft. Perhaps a TE instead of DT at 74.

I still think they go QB at 3 though.

3 of the 4 picks are the lines along with 5 skill position players. Also picked up two 2025 second rounders in the process with one likely to be from a bad team.

Multiple move downs in round one. Picking up multiple picks which I used to move all around the board.
It's a path, but if we move off a top 5 pick and don't pick til mid-20s and don't get a future #1 I'd be really shocked.

Got the QB, some OL help along with some mid round skill position guys along with a developmental QB and 6 2025 picks including 2 firsts and two seconds. In this scenario I’m probably signing Brissett as a bridge QB and have Daniels sit for about half the season until the OL can gel. Then in the 2025 I’m drafting impact skill guys and move around the board to do so.

They'd probably open a new wing in Canton for the GM that pulls off that draft. And the other 31 GMs would sit in a circle and commit hari-kari.

When does the hype train really start for the QBs? I am sure all the agents are busy posturing. Last year Ricahrdson really popped after the combine. Daniels is going to test well. Williams needs to show up in interviews with some emotional maturity. Maye has to go show off his arm and take some pictures next to Josh Allen. What's the best timing to get your guy out there in the current system? Is it still just some combo of combine, pro-days and private workouts? Just curious what the optimum path is.

Last Drake Maye @ #3 mock before I lose my mind. Focused on QB, WR, T, & Edge and tried to follow PFF rankings.

I’d much prefer Daniels at 26 then Maye at 3. Much better value.

Got Penix late in the second round and loaded up on skill position players with an upside OT. Newton at 26 was a steal. Getting two future firsts helps in case Penix stinks. A draft like this would make the Patriots a lot more interesting next season.

Nobody should be posting a mock draft here without at least one OT in it. Just saying.
I’m signing, or tagging Onwenu if necessary, but feel like we’re good at guard and C. That leaves LT, and you are right I’m not leaving the draft without one.

I almost qualified that by saying ‘unless I’ve got LT sorted in FA’, but even then I’m drafting.

I don't see why you wouldn't tag and attempt to resign Onwenu. He was a guard, you're tagging him at Tackle money at high dollar figure and work to extend him. I know it doesn't always go well but I haven't heard anything about Onwenu being unhappy outside of being made a tackle, which is now how he's going to hugely profit. I'm still scarred from letting Thuney walk, then using a 1st round pick a year later to replace him. Instead they used that money in 2020 & 2021, both which could have been used to extend him on people like Jonnu Smith and Nelson Agholor. For a team that values the line, this was an all-time miss that cost them for a few years.

I'm not against Strange, he's been fine, but you don't use a 1st rounder on a "fine" guard because you let your All Pro guard walk so you can spend money on crap. It's the opposite of the discussion we're having now on how a "tackle at 3 can be a 10 year player" extending Thuney for what he got was close to a sure thing, but spent it on a 2nd / 3rd WR with stone hands.

Lots of talent acquired in this mock. The line is rebuilt. Got the QB of the future. Newton and McConkey in the 2nd and 3rd rounds are a steal. Also got some nice ammo for 2025.

I think I’m agreeing with you? To be clear I’m retaining Onwenu one way or the other to play RT, and I accept there’s premium price potential there. Still want to draft a developmental tackle on top of LT starter, even if they think they did and one of those guards is a tackle given time.

This is a Greg Bedard type draft.
As much as I’d hate that draft, and any draft which results in Mac, Zappe or the veteran equivalent at QB (Lock, Rudolph, Brissett etc), Powers-Johnson would be an awesome get. He had a phenomenal year and was reportedly the best player at the senior bowl. Not as high priority as other positions but he has the potential to anchor an interior line for the next 7+ years.

It's funny how if you're not trying to solve the QB problem at #3, the simulators all allow you to accumulate an ungodly number of picks this year trading down. I drafted two top tackles (Fashanu, Suamataia) and two top guards by 74, still had six more picks before 200 to draft replacements on defense and WR/TE upgrades. Having #3 is awesome.

I made a bunch of savvy trades on one of those sites and came up with the following draft
Round 1-Lawrence Taylor LB North Carolina
Round 2-Jim Brown-RB-Syracuse
Round 3-John Hanaah OG-Alabama
Round 4-Randy Moss-WR-Marshall
Round 5-Dick Butkus-ILB-Illinois
Round 6-Thomas Brady-QB-Michigan
Round 7-Jerry Rice-WR-Delta State

I also acquired the 1st round pick of every team in the NFL for the next four years.

Its gonna be a quick rebuild

Dumb because they need an OT. (Brady will get killed, if he even starts over Mac.)

@FermSheller is absolutely correct. How dumb to forget an OT. Now we'll have to trade one of 120 1st round picks we have. BTW who is this Mac you speak of?

Had to trade next year's 2nd, but got back 4th, 3 5ths, and 2 6ths (and extra picks this year obviously) trading down a bunch of times.
