Yeah, players. That was moronic by Rasmus.Players gotta figure it out? I think the league needs to figure it out. If/when the red sox lose a game in this fashion we're all going to go batshit crazy. I've seen the replay at least 5 times now and I've read the rule a couple time and I still don't know why the double play was awarded. This was far less egregious than the Bautista call a few days ago.
We're going to see some *wild* win totals in the NL this year. The Phillies will need lots of help to win 60.
Between them, SD, Atlanta and Milwaukee there are AWFUL teams over there.
Agreed. Just because the SS avoided him and elected not to make the throw to first, that doesn't absolve Rasmus of failing to follow the new rules. He didn't slide to the bag, he didn't stop at the bag, he didn't even make an attempt to touch the bag. By the letter of the rule, there's no argument. That he went in spikes up just makes it worse. Agree or disagree with the rule, it's the rule and if players want to avoid being called on it, they have to be better about not violating it. Or at least make it look like they're trying to comply.Yeah, players. That was moronic by Rasmus.
With Adrian being the hitter, he could have stopped, double clutched, adjust his pants and then throw to second and the double play could still have been made (half joking but he had time and he hurried it)In the second baseman's defense, it had been raining pretty heavily for at least a couple of innings before that, but yeah, it was a very makeable play. The reaction shot from Casilla said it all, he was Lackey-esque in his displeasure about the play.
Wait, why do you say that? Down 1-0 in the 9th at home isn't a crazy time to bring in the closer.Mets closer Familia in a 1-0 game that he is trailing. That doesn't happen in the regular season very often.
edit: Loaded the bases, but struck out Howard and got the next batter on a weak ground ball to SS. Now Jeanmar Gomez in to attempt to close it out for the Phils.
It's actually the proper use of a closerWait, why do you say that? Down 1-0 in the 9th at home isn't a crazy time to bring in the closer.
Was watching on FS1, and two times in the later innings the feed cut to commercial in the middle of an at-bat. Showed two motocross ads and another product, then came back to the continued inning as if nothing had happened. Second time was when the Dodger batter had a 3-2 count, top 9, tie game, runners on 2nd and 3rd. It was infuriating. The game was on FS1, probably why Extra Innings is acting odd.
Yep, same here, really amazing how these big networks buy the exclusive rights but seem less and less capable of actually broadcasting the events (another example was the first ten minutes of the first Final Four game last week, with crazy shadows all over the court making the game close to unwatchable until TBS fixed it).Was watching on FS1, and two times in the later innings the feed cut to commercial in the middle of an at-bat. Anyway, maybe that was when the blank screen was coming up?
Was one trying to spray paint "fuck" on the other's back? Thanks for the info, trekfan. I was watching this game and left it, b/c some deer were fighting outside like kangaroos, something I've never seen before.
The 2B was Kelby Tomlinson. Joe Panik had the day off and Tomlinson is his backup. And you're right. Casilla, gave up a BB, single and HBP to load the bases so he can fuck right off. With Adrian being the hitter, he could have stopped, double clutched, adjust his pants and then throw to second and the double play could still have been made (half joking but he had time and he hurried it)
However, Casilla did load the bases first so he is not really balmeless.
Chirinos out 10-12 weeks, and Choo out 4-6 weeks.Texas catcher, Robinson Chirinos broke his right forearm yesterday.
It isn't crazy to do so, but most managers don't actually do it, so it has to be considered unusual at a minimum.Wait, why do you say that? Down 1-0 in the 9th at home isn't a crazy time to bring in the closer.
He's like a real life version of the kid in the Matt Christopher book "The Kid Who Could Only Hit Homers."Make that SEVEN HR's for Story...View attachment 1984
Lucroy trade a possibility for them?Texas catcher, Robinson Chirinos broke his right forearm yesterday.
Reminds me of Calico Joe.He's like a real life version of the kid in the Matt Christopher book "The Kid Who Could Only Hit Homers."
That's what all the papers are suggesting.Lucroy trade a possibility for them?
Just coming here to say the same thing about the DBacks unis. I've never been a fan of monochrome uniforms unless they're all white, so these dark grey jerseys with matching pants just aren't working for me. Game is on MLB Network as well. Vin Scully on the call, which makes it worth watching no matter who the teams are or what their uniforms look like.Apparently Arizona are wearing their "road alternate teal" uniforms for the Dodger home opener today. Just brutally ugly.
Dark grey background and the player name barely visible in teal. On MLBTV as the free game of the day now.
He's in again tonight, down 2-1, top of 9th. I really don't think that this is very rare.It isn't crazy to do so, but most managers don't actually do it, so it has to be considered unusual at a minimum.
Two triples and a single on the day.Trevor Story got robbed of his 8th HR tonight by the newly extended fences at Coors. Turned into a triple.
Actually, he was robbed twice by the new extended fences. Both triples would have been homeruns last year.Trevor Story got robbed of his 8th HR tonight by the newly extended fences at Coors. Turned into a triple.
That's easy to complain about now obviously, but was anyone actually bringing that up as an issue before spring training? or even before the season even after the hot spring training?Actually, he was robbed twice by the new extended fences. Both triples would have been homeruns last year.
The controversy locally is whether he should be up at all, given that the Rockies will lose an extra year of team control by having him on the opening day roster as opposed to going the Cubs/Kris Bryant route.
Heck,, yeah, you do. Yankees up 2-0 now, after an error by Goins that would have ended the inning. Stroman is having trouble now just as he did against the Sox. First inning perfect, though..Really? I have to cheer for Marcus Stroman and the Jays tonight?
Actually, it was one of the more commented on issues on Purple Row before the season began: http://www.purplerow.com/2016/3/30/11330244/colorado-rockies-trevor-story-promotion-opening-day-2016That's easy to complain about now obviously, but was anyone actually bringing that up as an issue before spring training? or even before the season even after the hot spring training?
I am guessing noone was even thinking about it at that stage.
