Yeah, I mean, at the end of the day if there are X amount of complaints about the 1B not bailing out his teammates throw after throw all season, it’s a thrower problem first.
We are damn far removed from the days of guys like Lowell and Pedey hitting the 1B in the letters with every throw.
Could be, or the person at MLB HQ handling review is deep into the bottle of tequila at this point.
I recently watched a replay of Varitek blocking Eric Byrnes at the plate and it made me seriously sad about the new catching rules.

The entire team has been alternating from really good to pumpkin all season. No consistency. Except with the bad fielding and bad base running. Those are consistent.
I still can’t believe I just saw that by McGuire. First off, don’t wait for the runner, lunge at him to tag him 2 feet in front of the plate. Second, if you are going to sit by the plate, then tag the body part that’s attempting to touch the plate. What the actual hell.
New rules really didn't come into play here. Reaching for the player or plate doesn't need to involve blocking the plate. McGuire didn't have that glove down and had plenty of time to do so.
It's fitting, because this was the test for the playoffs. We split last week there, and would have to win 2 out of 3 at home to win a seven game series. If we're not up to that, what's the point of making the playoffs?
He couldn't lunge cause he was planted on his left knee instead of in any other position that would allow quick movement toward the runner.
Should just leave Schreiber in for the rest of the game to save the pen for another loss tomorrow. It's what I would do.
