I was taken aback by the Rays players who rushed onto the field toward third to celebrate, it looked like the ball was still live???
Yeah there were absolutely dudes rushing the field before Arozerena touched home plate. The was clearly a guy already across the first base line. Wild stuff.

Unreal game. It's a shame this game ended well past midnight for so many. In a sport that needs fans, you can't have games ending at 1130pm+ for almost half the country. This was a game that would have brought in so many fans... yet, most probably went to bed in the 5th.
on the other hand, relative to recent playoff games this series has been moving briskly. Sub-4 hour games the first two games, this one was barely over 4 hours despite 8-7 bullpen games

It will be very interesting to see what the Dodgers do in the next game.
They are still on serve, they need to win the four games Kershaw and Buehler start. TB ideally needs to close it in 6, because if it goes to Buehler vs Morton in game 7, I think it is big advantage LA. So basically I think tomorrow decides it.

Why was Jansen up the 3rd base line? Shouldn’t he have been backing up the plate? Probably doesn’t matter but maybe he stops that mishandle from getting that far away.

That’s at least two errors on that play.
My first thought too, but I think it has to just be the one. If everyone plays it cleanly, one run scores and the go ahead run is on 3rd. As ugly as it was, the runner just ended up advancing a single base, which I believe has to just be one error. In spirit, the only reason he went was because the CF bobbled the ball and the only reason he scored was because the catcher flat out missed it. I'd be fine if they somehow assessed 2 errors on the play, even if by the rules it should be 1.

If everyone plays it cleanly ... it's extra innings

If the throw gets past the catcher from where it was thrown, it would normally be on the 3rd base side of the plate. Didn't actually work out that way.

I was going to say besides the winning run being a bloop, an amazing game. can't really nitpick about anything now.

And the boulder is on Kershaw’s back again. Massive pressure.

Guccione is such a jerk-off that I have expected him to nullify the second run for because of the premature exaltation

They just showed an angle, the throw was behind Smith and he thought he had to swipe it quickly or the game was over. If he'd realized Arozarena slipped, he could have moved to catch it but it was a bad throw also.

Phillips. A name originating from the Greek philein, to love, and hippos, horse.

In a year where where we need love and our similarities to connect us beyond the omnipresent prevailing sentiments of fear and hate, a Phillips reigns today. To the surprise of the Romans at Troy 3000 years ago, a horse was the ultimate surprise in victory, a Phillips reigns today. Who else could it be?

I disagree, a throw from Taylor or Muncy getting away was likely to go behind the catcher as it did. Jansen lollygagged it when any normal backup may have given them a small chance to survive. Probably doesn’t change anything but that was a failure to mah the right fundamental play by Jansen. Keith Foulke agrees with me on Twitter.

@keithfoulke Maybe the pitcher should of been backing up the plate.

It also seemed to me that the relay came from an awkward distance. Sometimes, being too close to where you have to throw it can cause a problem

My wife turned the game off almost immediately after (dodgers fan) so maybe I missed it in the replays, but it was a typical single to the CF, and the game winning run started the play on 1st. If the CF plays it cleanly, there is no way he's sent home, he stops at 3rd and the inning continues with two outs and runners at the corners (or possible 2nd and 3rd, if the throw goes home trying to get the tying runner out). Or am I missing something?

It's hard to believe TB just won a WS game with Ryan Yarbrough starting and all three of Fairbanks/Castillo/Anderson allowing earned runs.

He was roaring around third regardless. I think they'd have had him trying to get back. I could be wrong. It was such a bizarre play

I did catch the quick replay and he was absolutely flying, but I think that was partially because the entire Rays dugout was giving him the go sign, not just the 3rd base coach. Some incredibly baserunning, at least right up until the moment he fell on his face then was bailed out.

That was the baseball version of the ending of the Stanford Cal band on the field game. You’re watching it but you don’t even know what the f is happening.

That Arozarena AB was baseball drama at its best. Guccione's ever evolving and dimension shifting strike zone mirrored Jansen's control. And then Phillips comes out of obscurity to airplane into the night.

That was just the bottom of the ninth.

Jansen would have been on the 3rd base line backing up a throw from right center. Smith swiped at it and it went far right of where Jansen would have been.

I haven't watched much baseball since the Padres were eliminated but something told me I had to watch this game. I'm so glad I did and in a way the Rays are my second home team, having lived in Tampa from 5 years old to 9 years old before moving back to Boston.
