#DFG: Canceling the Noise

Is there any level of suspension that you would advise Tom to accept?

Inside Lou Gorman's Head
So in his (possibly throwaway) line at the end, Simms states that the referees "maybe even... put an extra half pound of air in there to help Aaron Rodgers out."

That must have come out wrong and can't be what he's actually trying to say, right? I mean, perhaps the *team* puts the extra half pound of air in to help Aaron Rodgers out and the refs don't catch it (so he "gets lucky").

But if Simms is really alleging that the refs know how a particular QB likes his balls and pumps in extra air for him, that's crazy.

Since it's Simms, I'm going with he must have mangled the English language.

I think poor Phil Simms is going to be doing a lot of explaining and backtracking -- I think what it will morph into is Simms saying that Rodgers said that sometimes the balls feel a bit overinflated and he's fine with that and hopes the officials don't notice, not that Rodgers deliberately attempts to get away with one.

Of course, I fully believe Simms meant exactly what he said and probably did have that discussion with Rodgers.

I think that it's much more likely that the Aaron Rodgers thing gets no traction whatsoever.  I don't see this any type of smoking gun or revelation.  It's no different then the other coaches that admitted to stealing/taping signals during the spygate saga.  I'd be surprised if that clip moves the needle at all.

SportsCenter just teased something like "Should the Patriots thank Aaron Rodgers?" as a coming-up-next story.  No idea if it has to do with this, but the timing of it is interesting.

Thanks Bert and the media's reaction to both situations is still like in 2007. Pot, kettle. Kettle, pot.

The longer this stupidity plays out, the more I like the Patriots' chances in the super bowl.

Is the apostrophe correct?

Hopefully it'll be like the F.U. Chargers game immediately following the birth of Spygate.

I wonder if the Packer's "Stock Holders" are going to call a "Board Meeting" over this. If so, I hope the NFL fines all "Stock Holders" for this offense and they are required to pay out of pocket. You "own the team" then you have to pay as well.

It would really be something if the Pats are up 20 with a minute go with the ball and just start heaving the ball downfield. Or maybe they could send out Tom with a completely deflated football to take a snap.

I know that Simms is joking and all, but even in the realm of exaggeration, a 1/2 pound of air (8 ounces) is roughly 45 gallons.

Re the psychology of it all...

Assuming the team stays roughly the same as it is now, the visit to Indianapolis next year will be a Reckoning.

Coach Bill will steal their souls and slaughter the children.  This will be epic.

I think we can understand now why Kraft scheduled this game for next season.

The same way he fixed the schedule so for 3 years in a row Indy had to come to NE and as soon as Peyton goes to Denver, Kraft scheduled back to back home games against the Broncos.

Unreal what the Pats get away with.

At this point, all we know is that someone from the Colts thought that one ball may have felt underinflated so they asked that it be checked into.  Have I missed something?  For me, it's an interesting commentary on the state of sports and social media.

No, you haven't missed anything.  But tell that to some reporters/media personality, and you'll be labeled a Cheatriot Lover.

Basically, sports media saw how rampantly successful Fox News' model was, and copied it.

IMO they need this BS over quickly.

Nothing official, but they're doing the Pro Bowl draft thing tomorrow night at 8 EST, so I'm guessing there's a quiet press release, oh, around 9:30 or so.

I agree, but they are in a difficult spot. They had better run everything to ground, yet they don't do first rate work on this stuff.

But yeah, they have to spike this convincingly and hopefully quick, cause it is just fueling a larger attack. If there is anything to this, on the other hand, they are better off riding through the SB. At some point next week, attention will turn back to the game.

I don't know, it would be better to release it when they're airing something more people are watching. Like perhaps televising the paint drying on the turf at UoP Stadium.

Yeah, its a hard spot if you are run by incompetents.  Otherwise, not so much.  Lol at "anything to this".

Get UL to test about 6-10 Pat game balls, Colts, Packers, S'Hawks game balls and balls from every team in the league for psi, size etc. Test all team's balls. If Pats ball are outside of some statistical norm, or they tampered with the ball, that's the way it is. But IMO testing for that stuff should be fast-tracked and done.

And if the Packers need to be spanked for over-inflated balls so be it.

But the results you get know would be off because of changes in temperature, humidity, etc. and also potentially the use of the ball.  This wouldn't work.

This is just an inexact shorthand for psi. An extra half psi of pressure is more or less right in the range we're talking about.
