#DFG: Canceling the Noise

Is there any level of suspension that you would advise Tom to accept?

For as smart as he is, he and his PR team have botched this whole issue from start to finish.  I can only hope that whatever deal he cut is worth the stigma that will follow his team during this era.

This tells me Roger is going to let Brady skate.  Otherwise this is an irresponsible decision by Kraft.

He knows something we don't. I wonder if Roger revealed to him some bit of evidence that didn't get released to the public.

Kraft is giving up without a fight? He's going to walk away, just like that? What a crock of shit.

So was there a deal or not?  Did he just say, I quit?  Or was this part of the deal - him doing this presser and then the league deciding to reduce some of the punishment soon?

I've lost all respect. Why did they respond to the Wells report in the first place?

Two explanations.

One is that RG or other owners threatened Kraft (or promised that there would be repercussions) for pursuing it.

Second is that Kraft realizes that this is a distraction that is bad for all concerned and that he can't realistically expect to win, and thus probably regrets the initial response and the website.

I don't think there's much logic to the set of actions together otherwise.

Clearly we have all overestimated the influence he has over the other owners of the league.

I strongly object to the statement and would have liked to see aa much stronger stand on innocence, but he said one thing that's right on:

As a Patriots fan, you have to have faith and respect for Bob Kraft and the decisions he makes.

Trust in TB12, Trust in BB, Trust in Kraft

Thats my exact read too, it makes too much sense for all parties involved based on the information we have.  Never know with ROG, but I think there's a good chance that suspension goes away.  Kraft's lawyers probably told him he has little recourse, ROG's lawyers probably told him that Brady's suspension has little chance of getting upheld, both want the whole thing to go away, so here we are.

At heart, this is ROG making things "right" for spygate and exerting dominance over Kraft, and he'll have accomplished that with or without the Brady suspension.  31/32 of the NFL thinks the Pats are cheaters, just the way its going to be.

Yeah that was the worst possible outcome.  Also his wording - it's all "circumstantial evidence", earlier "there's no smoking gun".  Basically he's admitting guilt.

I get the Pats not fighting this.  Limited options.

I don't get not saying that he understands and respects that Tom might be in a different position, and that Tom has his full support.

PS: And BS on the admission of guilt.  If you don't believe you are going to win, fighting just to fight is pointless.  I head no words of admission in what he said.  I heard that he's part of a club, the club has rules, one of the rules allows the Commish to decide, he doesn't like the decision, but club rules are club rules, and it's time to move on.  Nothing in that is an admission.

Yes, Godell said "hey, we spent a lot of money to put together a rather unconvincing report, but because I just happen to meet you at a birthday party let me tell you the real evidence that we decided we didn't want to tell people."

Good theory.

If you care about what fans or media idiots are going to say, there is simply no solution here that would ever make you happy.

My view is that this was a railroad job from the beginning, fueled by petty jealousy and misguided nonsense.

But you can't fight city hall, and Kraft knows it.

Also, nobody on this board knows what they don't know.

The NFL can crush anyone team if it sets it's mind on it, and all the team can do is say, "thank you sir, may I have another."  Kraft is not exempt, and he knows it.  It's time for him to move on.  I think I'm going to try to follow his lead.  I know what this is.  That's going to have to be good enough for me.

Let's win some fucking football games.

I agree it sucks that he won't fight tooth and nail, but this was so predictable.  Kraft is a billionaire in a billionare's club.  He likes being there and schmoozing with all of his fellow billionaires.   The other 31 owners are going to gush (if not publicly than privately) over Kraft for making the prudent decision not to sue the NFL.  Kraft will eat that up.  It doesn't mean he cannot continue to maintain the organization's innocence and can point to his response to the Wells report as evidence of how fucked up that report is.  And Brady will continue with his grievance.   This was 100% predictable....unfortunately.

Not all of us; some of us.

Have you paid attention to the statements of Jerry Jones, Arthur Blank and, yesterday, Bob McNair?

It wasn't trending for Bob. They wanted him to stand down, and he did.

I think we said many thousands of posts ago that the bylawys sort of fuck over teams when it comes to being able to appeal (and win), since there's no real roadmap for it.

NFLPA situation is way different.

If it comes out that Roger promised to reduce Brady's suspension to two games if Kraft backs down, is there anything wrong with that?  I would think that the CBA doesn't contemplate discipline cases being influenced by league and team issues.

He could have given the same press conference without discussing his respect for Roger and saying he believes in the process and the consolidated power of the commissioner. That just doesn't sound good for the future.

Mort on ESPN (paraphrasing):  time will heal this and it will go away.

Yeah, he’d like that b/c he is as complicit as anyone in this railroading.
