#DFG: Canceling the Noise

Is there any level of suspension that you would advise Tom to accept?

Or perhaps the other owners and Kraft patching things up a bit.

I  wonder how hard it is to get on those committees. It seems like they become close to a full time job for the owners but 97% of your work benefits the other 31 owners. Increasing like tv revenues by 6% a year rather than 5% a year on a base of about $200 million isn't a terrific use of time for somebody worth $3 billion (it might be cool in other ways-some guys are deal junkies and hobnobbing with owners and ceos and all isn't a terrible way to spend you time).   If I'm an owner and I more or less trust Jones/Richardson/Kraft/Mara and the league staff to handle things reasonably well--and when it comes to contract negotiations and the like it appears they do--then I'd just keep a low profile on league matters and spend my time elsewhere.

Kraft has been on that LA committee at least since February.  I don't think there was ever much of a rift between Kraft and other owners (except maybe a few).

There are a ton of NFL committees but its hard to tell how much work they each involve.  Even the Jim Irsays and Woody Johnsons of the world get put on some committees, but usually ones that nobody gives a fuck about (Irsay was chair of the "Legislative" committee for a long time and may still be.  I'm sure he did a bangup job.).

Given his winning personality, I'm sure there is no one other than the multitude of Pats fans here in Indy who would want to slash Greg Doyel's tires.
Fess up.  We won't just forgive you, we'll promote you.

So hours after he comes out with a story, some random Patriots fan knows what he drives and stalks him to his car to slash one tire.seems plausible.

Agreed.  That looks like a blowout, to me, too.  Unless the slasher used a curved knife.

Edit: Wait.  That's from January.  Why are we discussing this now?

We have bingo. That's pretty clearly a shitty driver tear.

Agreed, Ive had more than one girlfriend do that and that's exactly what it looks like. Unless someone did it with a friggin ice cream scoop, a knife doesn't leave that shape of a hole.

I mean I'm a shitty driver and I've done that before. Doyel may or may not have done this, all I see is a photo of a tire. For all I know he could have seen someone park badly, blow out a tire, and then snapped a photo with his phone so that he could drag out the victim card that's all the rage these days.

I've fucked up some rims in my day, so by no means am I throwing stones. But yeah, I think we are all in agreement.

But for an interview on ESPN Radio that happened minutes after an ESPN article emerged that made him look not so good for his handling of the Spygate controversy and its aftermath, Commissioner Roger Goodell has stayed out of sight.
That’s ending tonight; via multiple reports, Goodell is being interviewed by CBS’s 60 Minutes at MetLife Stadium, in advance of Thursday night’s game between Washington and the Giants.
Steve Kroft of CBS News is handling the interview, which via NJ.com is being conducted on the field at a “makeshift set with lights and cameras.”
Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post reports that a pair of NFL P.R. executives are listening to the conversation via headphones. As someone pointed out in response to that on Twitter, it’s possible they’re actually hearing a Patriots radio broadcast.
It’s not known when the interview will be televised, and it’ll be interesting to see how hard-hitting the interaction will be. On one hand, there’s a firewall between CBS News and the network’s broader business interests. On the other hand, CBS has a strong relationship with the NFL — and CBS surely hopes to retain the Thursday Night Football simulcast indefinitely.

"A suspension of Brady would be huge for the Jets, who are 2-0 entering Sunday’s game against Philadelphia and look poised to make the playoffs for the first time since 2011."

Pathetic.

They'll just make some noise now and then during the season, they quietly slink off next March or so, right?   Or maybe the source is Vincent, who just might be that dumb.

The Jets may well make the playoffs.  (Mouth vomit.)

But for anyone to say that there's no doubt that Brady will serve his suspension this year is right up there with the most ridiculous things to come out of this debacle.  And that's saying something, of course.

It assumes that anyone could know (a) that the Second Circuit will expedite the appeal such that there will be a firm, final resolution during the NFL season, which is highly doubtful and (b) that the Second Circuit will rule in favor of the NFL.

Absent a direct pipeline to the Second Circuit and some hanky panky with one or more of the judges (which is virtually inconceivable), no one could know either of these things.

This NFL source clearly believes the NFL got the "wrong judge" and that legal decisions are based solely on opinion rather than facts, laws and legal precedent.

Carton has already won.  People are talking about him and paying attention to something he said.

As to the report itself, the only potential relevance is that it could be the kind of thing that helps fuels Brady's fire.  Not that I expect him to care about this nonsense.

Otherwise, it's completely irrelevant.

As to the appeal timeline where are we?

1-when does the 3-Judge panel get selected?

2-I know the NFL filed grounds for the appeal about a week ago, but when do they have to file the full-blown appeal brief?

3--What's the timing for the NFLPA response?

Chill out; it's not happening.

This is some high quality trolling by Carton and his source.

There is no way this gets resolved by Feb; none.

I wonder how much it's costing who to make sure that Brady serves the suspension during the exact 4 game stretch when they want him to, like maybe the one that Pats play the Jets and the Giants?

I'm not concerned with Brady this season, I'm just asking the about the actual process of filing motions/time to respond etc.oral arguments, the nuts and bolts of the appeal process.

There is not even a briefing schedule yet -- and there are three briefs to be filed.  One can expect the NFL to get a month, the NFLPA to get a month to respond, then the NFL to get 2 weeks to file a reply brief.

Then oral argument must be scheduled and occur.  Then the case is submitted and decided.

Lets be honest, anyone these days can claim an "unnamed source" and get ratings.  Carton is the definition of a bafoon.   My guess is he made it up.

Thanks-the appellate decision sounds like a mid-2016 event at its earliest.

Huh.  Well, I'm glad that word has a definition.

I think it's funny that the source is with the NFL. The only sources that really matter at this point are judges, and they're unlikely to have a serious interest in either the NFL's butthurt or the Jets' playoff chances.

One thing that DFG taught us is that there are no shortage of D-students among Goodell's minions in the NFL office.  I'm sure at least one of them is truly convinced that the NFL will win the appeal and will "nail Brady" sometime this season.  That "source" probably has no idea (or even need to know) the status of the legal filings, etc.  Was probably told by someone higher up to "expedite" some paperwork that the NFL needs for their pointless appeal, and translated that to mean the appeal court's decision was going to be expedited.

Dumb people tend to hire even dumber people below them.

I can't imagine why anyone would take anything he says seriously.

I probably listen to more Boom & Carton show than any reasonable Boston sports fan should.

He is not a troll like the way Doyel or Hubbuch is, but he is definitely hot-headed and is an abashed, dyed-to-the-wool, green-to-the-bones Jets fan. He has enough connections in the NYC area to get his little "scoops" (runs a lot of charity events), but they are at best 50-50.

I fully believe Carton. I just do not believe in this "influential NFL source" is dishing out, when all facts point to a 2016 ruling, and most likely in Brady's favor.

When did Esiason become such a mouth breather? He was never intelligent but that clip puts him with the dumbest of the dumb in all this. When you disagree or don't understand a judge's ruling just scream "He is legislating from the bench!"
