Does anyone know when Felger is back? The last two days have been brutal radio.  Mazz creates and then annihilates strawmen as well as anyone in the business.  I just can't tolerate listening to him run a show because it's 4 hours of arguments predicated on theoreticals which are predicated on suppositions, usually predicated on Mazz' ability to read someone's mind, body language, or both.

I only listened to them a little bit today, so maybe I just missed the good stuff, but its just so jarring to listen to Mazz today and realize he has nothing of substance to add to the conversation. Hook at least has opinions that he can back with thought. All Mazz can do is yell, "this smells! It's really unbelievable Mike!"

It's such a waste.

Felger used the opening half hour to review almost everything Mazz has been saying this season about the Red Sox, point by point, and demolished him. "But you said they had an OF problem..." "But you said that proven talent is better than prospects..." "But you said power is important..." "But you said they might be cutting salary to under $100M..."

Mazz's only refuge is "pitching is important...who's pitching?"

You forgot that they won't spend any money next year and 2015 is a waste. Because only Mazz and a few posters here know exactly how the offseason will go already

Holy hell the show today was completely listenable.
Of course Gasper doesn't yell and scream and say people suck so it's not "good radio"
Its back to Saturday morning for him.

Agreed. Felger, Gasper and Keefer Madness would make for a good permanent cast.

Keefer knows how to tweak Felger and the calm, rational Gaspar is a breath of fresh air

And today, no Mazz. Gasper, and a good show, instead.

Agreed, it was a very good show, Gasper is excellent to listen to, watched it on CSN yesterday.

And speaking of CSN, that commercial they carpet bomb the viewers with during the broadcast for BC football season tickets is hysterical; "There's a tradition here, it's something special that you don't get at other places."

Really; wow, what tradition is that?  Are you shitting me or what?

Bertrand is intelligent, rational and level headed.  He'll never make it in radio.....

That was fantastic. They should just stop talking that guys calls.

I love that Danny then called back and yelled at the shows producer. What a loser.

Whoever is on (with Flynn?) right now just said Lester is not a top 10 pitcher in the AL.

Edit: It was Johnston. Go to the 98.5 website and try to look up the lineup of shows. It's a total mess!

This year he certainly has been, but if you include just last year as well in your definition of him, he's not top 10 by most any metric.

Ranks for 2013 and 2014 combined among IP qualified pitchers (i'm lazy, so these are MLB-wide and not just AL specific):

ERA: 25
xFIP: 33
FIP: 20

Don't forget of Mazzs hot take of not having Cesspedes in right immediately means they think he can't field and they just traded for two left fielders.

Why would you traded for two left fielders??? Just awful. I wish Bertrand could flush him like Danny from Quincy.

Bertrand sounded liked he wanted to kill Danny today when he said hi to him.

ZiPS has him as like the 7th or 8th best pitcher in baseball. Saying he's not top 10 in the AL is ridiculous.

Mazz talking about LB corps better than NE today, mentions seattle, admits he had to look up who they were, then says people dont talk about good those guys are.

Bertrand opened up baseball reporters talking about how he is resigned to the fact that if we trade for Stanton, Cespedes will be going back to Miami. That'll clear up the OF situation if we bring him in. I was disappointed that he actually thought Miami would want Cespedes...he's usually better than that

I think it was Tomasse who had a good point on this (cant believe I wrote that), that if we trade for Stanton the main pieces would be the prospects we sent over, but Cespedes might be the finishing touch to give them an OF who is MLB ready and can directly replace Stanton.  I wonder if this is what he meant by wanting him.

Not that this is the place for the discussion, but on the main board someone suggested that Cespedes would be moved to Miami and it was emphatically shot down as being a ridiculous thought. I agree, as they wouldn't want an expensive (for them) 30year old OF who is going into free agency. If they are selling Stanton, there is 0 need for Cespedes.

There is also the possibility of sending Cespedes over and paying a portion of his contract thus making him inexpensive for them.  End Hijack

Andrew Luck would have to improve a lot this season to be better than Roethlisberger, nevermind Brady. His potential is immense, but I still see a guy who makes questionable decisions often and who frankly isn't all that accurate. Obviously, he has a chance of being in the upper echelon of QBs in the near future, but right now he's among the most overrated players in football.

That isn't very crazy at all. They had pretty comparable seasons last year, there is a case to be made that Luck had the better season.
Brady is aging, Luck is probably not in his prime yet. Brady would have to show a significant return to form for it to be crazy to think Luck will be as good or better.

I'm shocked Mazz watched the entire preseason game. Maybe this is a sign of change, but he's actually referring to specific plays after the first 2 minutes of the game. Maybe he had nothing else to do?

He's also brought some research to the stats on PI. It's amazing he's not terrible when he tries.

Beetle approached the Tony Stewart/Kevin Ward tragedy in a measured and reasonable fashion. It's a sport he doesn't follow, and even with the video making the rounds the public still has limited information to work with in terms of what occurred. So his comments on the matter have been justifiably open-ended.

Mazz? Nope. Despite having NO FUCKING CLUE about racing other than seeing Tony Stewart in a couple of TV commercials, he's suddenly a passionate pontificating expert who feels compelled to issue an animated and forceful "hot take" on the incident. He really needs an accidental elbow to the lower jaw.

As for Felger? He doesn't make any pretense of racing knowledge, but is instead clamoring for charges to be filed against Stewart -- not because he feels the evidence actually warrants any charges in accordance with the relevant laws & statutes on the books, but because he just wants a jury to decide Stewart's guilt or innocence of killing the guy. <<facepalm>>

Please.  If Brady has a healthy Amendola and Gronkowski, he'll far outplay Luck.  I'd bet money that Brady has more yards, more TDs, and less INTs than Luck.

Probably, if he has much better weapons he'll be better, also the Patriots throw more and are a better team than the Colts so yards and probably TDs are a given.

I'm just saying it isn't outrageous to say that they guy who had nearly identical numbers last year (Comp%, Y/A, TD%, INT%, RTG, QBR name it they were very close) to Brady and is more than a decade younger might have a better season.

Arguing that the only reason they were close is that Amendola was injured and/or ineffective and Gronk was hurt is pointless considering the Colts had a brutally bad receiving corps. Darius Heyward Bey started 11 games for them. Also Amendola and Gronk miss a lot of time, it is who they are, I doubt either plays all 16 this year either.

Felger on Tony Stewart is the most insane argument i have ever heard regarding anything ever. So anytime somebody is possibly involved in something criminal we should just throw them to a jury of thier peers and let them decide thier fate? Good lord

Good call.

Another "significant" announcement would be the addition of Bertrand/3rd chair to the show (Gasper, Wiggins, Flynn, Grande, etc. as rotating "hourly" co-hosts with a specific day/time slot). Then a "flash guy" like Keefe/Hook could also be around to contribute.

If JTComedicGenius isn't here to be a parody/irony account then I really don't understand the point.

Anything teased like this is almost assuredly going to be a let down.  Finn would have had anything actually major in the paper 2 days ago, that guy doesn't miss anything.
