That Clemson drop was such a killer. This might be over by halftime. Clemson can’t throw at all.

Is there a rule for false start on kickers?? I genuinely dont know but the UGA kicker was moving towards the line of scrimmiage on the kick.

Kelly Bryant is overrated. Been saying it all season. He hasn't seen a defense like this one. Other than the Miami game (whose defense we now know was probably not as good as everyone thought at that point), he struggled against any decent defense he played, including Boston College, NC State and FSU.

IMO, everyone questioned putting Bama in the playoff. The real conversation should have been about Clemson, but they weren't going to keep the defending champ out. They had the easiest schedule of the 4, by far.

Yup. My Eagles held this offense in check for 3 quarters in Death Valley. Bryant can’t throw the ball at all, which is how you have to beat Bama.

Same as anyone else, can't be moving towards the line at the snap, no different than a running back, etc. I haven't seen the replay, but if they had made that call, and it led to a miss, that would have been insanity.

Guy took 2-3 short steps forward. Very clear. Announcers said ‘oh we has anxious to win the game!’ Seemed a bad missed call if that wasnt the rule.

Also agree on your Clem comment. They had a weak sched and lost to friggin Syracuse.

I just rewound it again, and the ball was clearly thrown deeper than the defender. The only reason he was able to make a play on the ball was because Ridley came back for it, and then jumped. If Ridley doesn't come back for it, the defender never reaches it, and Ridley makes the catch. It was probably underthrown to the extent he would have gotten tackled instead of scoring, but it absolutely should have been a completion.

Clemson is going to need to be +2 on turnovers to win this game. Their offense has no chance against Bama.

If you can raise a kid to be a nails kicker, write the ticket to college. Yeah, there are a lot more college players than pro, but at the upper collegiate levels, it’s still deplorable. What am I missing? I know it’s a dependent function — do the snappers and blockers suck as well?

He clearly moved forward prior to the snap, that's a false start unless the college rules are different.

YES. Oh my god, yes. The holds aren't too bad relatively speaking, but the snaps at this level, if you know what to look for, would make the kick quality blush with embarrassment. I see so many snaps that are off the standard line (all four/eight directions), the legs aren't square, holding becomes that much more of a challenge. It's just awful. Love the college game, but it's probably the most unwatchable part in a given week.

As a personal sidenote, my biological father actually suggested your exact item to my mother when she was pregnant with me, to get me a scholarship. Didn't quite work given who I am but I mean, gave me a great appreciation for kickers, so now their film is fun to break down for me.

It's really hard to know whether to root for Alabama just because of Daboll, or against them because they're Alabama. Going for it on 4th down there was quite Belichickian, as was the Vrabel-Eligible-esque play just now.

That play was awesome, good for that kid, he's pretty nimble out there for a 300lb lineman.

That was hilarious, but come on now letting that OPI go. He wasn’t even trying to hide it.

Haha, I told all of my friends for 20 years that when I had my son, he was going to be trained to be the greatest kicker of all time. I even had the name picked out "Haywood," and whenever he made a kick, people would yell "Wood is Good." Believe me, I had a plan. Unfortunately, my son has taken up swimming and baseball, but he's still only 9, so there is still some time to get him trained, but 15 years ago, I figured I'd have him kicking 40 yarders by now.

When I lived in NJ my neighbors kid was cut from the very competitive local high school soccer team. Took up placekicking going into his 11th grade year. Decent athlete, nothing that would blow you away, but he committed to it and attended a couple camps. Kicked the game-winning FG in the state title game as a senior and ended up going to college for free. Trust the process!

My wife put the skids on the name, unfortunately. I'll have to come up with a new motto first. Then I'll worry about the actual kicking. That said, I heard colleges are giving out more scholarships in swimming now than almost any other sport, so we've got some kind of plan in place. :)

I’m resigned, cuz at the end of it, if you’re honest, you have the give the proper respect. Crimson are the NEPs.

And they earned it. Alabama was a has been for many years pre-Saban.

Is it me, Do both UGA and OU look better than both these teams? Or these are 2 good teams playing a grueling game.
Clemson has a great, not good, great defense, especially the front 7. It's just that their offense is below average. Alabama has an out of this world defense, and an above average offense. I think Bama beats Georgia next week, but it won't be an enjoyable game to watch either.

FTFY. Clemson shouldn't be here.
I get that it's fun to make hot takes when a team's getting killed, but this narrative is absurd.

Clemson is a 1 loss conference champion with multiple good wins on their resume. Ohio State lost 2 games. Clemson had more good wins than Ohio State did, and only one loss. There was absolutely NO argument for Ohio State to be in over Clemson.

Agreed, but I was just thinking about the controversy of picking Bama over OSU
I hear you. I didn't have an issue with Bama over Ohio State. Either team had a solid argument. If Clemson wasn't the defending national champ, I think the real argument would have been them versus Ohio State. It's too bad though, because no way the committee could keep out a one loss, conference champ, defending national champion, no matter how bad their schedule was...

He did learn from the best. Watching that 30-for-30 on Cleveland 1995 and seeing Belichick scowling at a sheepish-looking Nick Saban was a bit a mindfuck now that Saban has the demeanor and reputation of a serial killer.

God I love Bama, they are CFB’s Patriots. People get so butt hurt.
This is why they got my interest. The salt, plus the Saban/Belichick connection of being humble leading to sustained success was too much to not enjoy.

That's an awesome nickname. If he's doing baseball, still need good footwork be it in the box, making a relay, or, the follow through on his delivery. I can't speak to knowing swimming mechanics as well, sadly. Never say never!

FWIW Saban has coached against teams coached by his former assistants 11 times

11-0 record

Clemson beat 2 top 10 teams, 4 ranked teams, and 9 bowl eligible teams. They did NOT play a weak schedule. Ohio State beat 2 top 10 teams, 3 ranked teams and 5 bowl eligible teams. And OSU had 2 losses

It's easy to pile on, but this ridiculous narrative needs to be shut down.

No hot take here. You can find plenty of my posts on the subject before the votes were cast. That said, I agree completely that there was no way to keep them out. It's unfortunate, but it's true. However, I disagree that there is no argument for Ohio State over Clemson. You've seen the Big 10's performance the last two weeks, right? Clemson didn't have more good wins than Ohio State. I don't even know how that's an argument. Wisconsin, Michigan State, Penn State....Who did Clemson beat besides Miami?
