The Lakers did well here imo. Turning expiring Squarepegbrook into DLo, Vanderbilt and Beasley is pretty good.

What is going on with Minnesota? Conley is good but that doesn't feel like the right move for them.

I think they believe DLo doesn’t fit with Ant and need a solid veteran point guard to lead. I r try hunk Conley is a good fit for them and that DLo is shooting well but not a winning type of player.

That makes sense but it feels like that roster needs to torn down versus throwing some 30-odd year old paint on it. They needed to blow it up imo. They will probably get there eventually.

If that's the whole deal, seems like a big win for the Wolves (get the better, cheaper player & picks), a temporary win for the Lakers (until they give DLo max money & regret it forever), & kinda wtf for the Jazz unless it's just like top 1 protected or something.

Simmons on his pod after the game last night pretty much said that Westbrook had to go immediately. They did well do move him.
Woj: The Lakers' 2027 first-round pick to the Jazz is protected 1-to-4, source tells ESPN.

Seems like they should have been able to do better than 1 top 4 protected pick for:

Conley
Vanderbilt
Beasley
'25 2nd
'26 2nd

& are people going to actually sign into that space, or are they going to keep kicking assets down the road Thunder-style? Oh well, fun trade regardless.

I think Westbrook, if not bought out, could have real value as the lead PG of a tanking team.

Again, I like Conley but those picks are meh. This isn't going to move the needle much for them imo.

You would think that, but he's more of a floor raiser & ceiling reducer. Buyout makes sense.

It's not...but they got rid of a negative player who was an impending free agent & replaced him with a positive player who fits their team better, costs less money, has an extra year of control, & there's no real reason to think Jazz 2nds in 2 to 3 years won't be top 35-40 picks, which aren't awful assets.

So I don't see a lot of downside.

I get the idea of clearing cap, but I think Ainge could have in one or multiple trades gotten more than a single protected 1st, certainly without giving up his own 2nds.

I also would note.... a max player has never signed in Utah... NEVER. The last all-star caliber player was what... Boozer 20 years ago? So 60M in a weak FA class....

I believe this is what they refer to in the business as a lateral move.

Good for Danny, though, if he steals another pick.
I believe it's called a "GM Lebron wants him the hell out of here" move.

Openly lamenting the fact that they couldn't land Kyrie, which obviously would have spelled Westbrook being shipped out, was exquisite.

Entirely fair take.

"The TWolves, not a lot of downside!" actually works.

I don't get this at all from Ainge. This return in a sellers market seems really light.

Maybe have to be on the lookout for Ainge being a Grant Williams nuisance this summer.

I actually think this is a pretty decent deal for all involved. The Lakers get depth and out from under Westbrook, the Jazz get what should be a very good pick (top four protected is nothing to sneeze at) and the Wolves get to rebalance their roster.

For some reason I feel like this is a precursor to a Kyrie for DLo mutual s+t deal this off season?

My take:

Lakers win big.
Utah wins as they accomplish an objective.
WTF did the Wolves just do?

I assume Utah trades it, but yeah, I don't get this deal at all....
You trade a bunch of assets at .30 on the dollar to clear cap space in a bad FA class, when you're one of the least attractive markets, and you either get a non-premium 1st or a 2nd?

From the lack of trades so far, I would say that a lot of the players that teams wanted a first round pick for are not going to move. Also I think Ainge learned a lesson while he was with the Celtics, which is, you can have too many picks.
I think he is now hunting quality first rounders, not quantity. And seconds are a waste of resources.

this isn't a quality 1st though. A top 4 protected pick with no roll-over? That's not a premium pick at all... if the team collapses you get a 2nd, if not you probably get a mid-1st or worse

I’m a huge Hart fan so assuming that’s one of the Knicks weaker 1sts that’s a good get for them.

DeJesus, I'm curious why you like the job Connelly's done. They are a KAT trade away from being an older 2021-22 Jazz with Ant in the unhappy Mitchell role.

Using the cap space to absorb bad contracts that come with draft picks is probably the right move.

Ouch. I didn’t know about the no rollover.

Feels like Vanderbilt was given away.
I’m a huge fan of his skillset and motor. I don’t think he’ll truly be able to exhibit all of his passing and ballhandling in that lineup so that makes me sad. He still needs to find his niche but if he does this kid can be an elite role player. He’s already gone from a complete bricklayer to developing a 3-pt shot which says a lot about his work ethic.

The man with the untradeble contract gets traded for the fourth time on said contract.

I like Conley's season but if you are asking if I like that deal for Minnesota, I absolutely do not. I agree with your take. Minnesota may have a plan and maybe Conley works with Ant while helping others get better. I'd prefer to see Minnesota get younger and build around Ant.

Yea, Vandy is working on that Corner3, where he can also crash the offensive boards from the weak side. Nice complimentary, role player.

Laker's made an excellent deal. A Danny head-scratcher on the timing & return
