Please, please no.

The three main possibilities here are:
1: Cespedes traded, or
2: Napoli traded, or
3: Bogaerts traded.
The only way I'd see X traded, is in a package for someone like Sale.Snoop Soxy Dogg said:
I'm utterly puzzled by the Bogaerts traded talk. I suppose it's a "possibility", but it makes no sense to me. Who plays shortstop? Hanley isn't really an option there any more. You don't create a hole when you have a player like that making peanuts and you need to spend money on pitching. I don't think Bogaerts is going anywhere. Neither is Betts, you don't trade players like that. I think everybody else is fair game though.
The after-thought here is Middlebrooks; man, is he done here or what? Way to turn off your bosses by rejecting their suggestions..AAA and wait for a trade. Jeez.

If I was a betting man I wouldn't bet against hearing about Hamels to Boston if Panda is signed.Luis Taint said:I think it's a lock that Cespedes is out the door.
Hamels, straight up for Cespedes? Is your second starter? I'm confused as to how big a chip Cespedes is. Could he , along with a decent prospect or two , bring back Zimmerman or Cueto?Tyrone Biggums said:If I was a betting man I wouldn't bet against hearing about Hamels to Boston if Panda is signed.
I think it would probably be something like Cespedes and Marrero or Cespedes and Buchholz to make money work so they can still pursue Lester. To put his value into perspective two very smart organizations felt that he was worth Jon Lester who is the hottest pitcher on the free agent market currently.Luis Taint said:Hamels, straight up for Cespedes? I don't think the Phillies are trying to clear money at all. In a nutshell they're looking to redistribute the money to fill holes on the team. Cespedes gives them the thump that they assumed Ryan Howard was going to provide and obviously cannot at this stage in his career. So while it would be nice to get rid of 20 million in salary it's all about the best possible return for Hamels and if it's the guy who was just traded for Lester and a guy who is 18 months removed from being a big part of the Sox then you consider it.NDame616 said:
I don't think we are trading Buchholz anyway, but if they Phillies are looking to clear a lot of money, Cespedes and Buchholz make more this year than Hamels . Obviously both are on much shorter deals, but I doubt they want to bring back $23M in salary for Hamels.

Relax Boegarts is not being moved. Sox brass loves him too much. Expect a Cespedes trade in 48 hours. Again this is all just my opinion...Hank Scorpio said:
I'm not advocating it, and I really want to believe Ben wouldn't trade Bogaerts, but I worry it might happen. I love the thought of trading Cespedes, strongly dislike the idea of trading Napoli, and the thought of trading Bogaerts (or Betts, or Swihart) makes me sick to my stomach.
johnnywayback said:In 2015, this leads to the potentially awkward sight of Hanley Ramirez in LF -- but it's going to be a killer lineup (Betts, Pedroia, Ortiz, Ramirez, Napoli, Sandoval, Bogaerts, Castillo, Vazquez), and if you can still afford Lester and get some value out of Cespedes, Craig, Middlebrooks, and the other pieces who now definitely don't have a roster spot, we could be looking at a really good team.
In the longer term, I think this is about replacing Ortiz and Napoli. With Stanton and Heyward (two of my favorite potentially-available elite bats) no longer available, I think the idea is to figure out how to have a 2016-and-beyond lineup containing enough high-level bats. Totally on board with Ramirez and Sandoval being two of them (occupying two of these spots depending on what else the roster looks like: 3B, 1B, DH).

I think Hanley may not be more than average in LF. He quite possibly could be below average. I don't see him as being a butcher out there.
Keep in mind that the Red Sox won the 2013 World Series with Gomes and Nava in left. Gomes had a -0.4 dWAR, and Nava a -1.3 dWAR. That's almost -2 dWAR between the two. Hanley will not be that bad. No way. They will have superior defense in RF and CF and 2b and 1b and C. Solid defense at 3b. Average defense at SS. They can afford a below average defender in left, especially given what the lineup should produce.
The smart money is that Sandoval wanted to tell the Giants personally before the news broke and that's why they're denying any agreement.mloyko54 said:Sandoval's agent has kept everythign very quiet, as have the Red Sox. Below average in LF? He was just playing at the high end of the defensive spectrum -- granted,, not very well, but he was at least passable -- and he'd go all the way to the other end and still be below average? I'm holding out hope for more.

I understand there are questions on his defense, but he is young and players have improved in that regard in the past. I don't think they are so close to a playoff team that they can make that determination right now and would prefer to let him play for the job in AAA this year while signing a stopgap like Lowrie.
I'd have spent my money on pitching or just banked it for something better to come along.
Just as likely that he's a piece in a trade for a pitcherToe Nash said:You're also basically right now deciding that Cecchini is not going to be a MLB 3B.
