Brady’s right thumb bent back badly when he was smashed into by a running back. Somehow, the ball got jammed back into the webbing between his thumb and index finger and it caused a cut. Might have been the laces. There may be stitches. He’s not taking snaps under center. He can take them in shotgun. He’s trying not to aggravate the thumb between now and kickoff so the reps are at a minimum. He can throw. I have no idea how hard, how far or how accurately.

He may take a shot of Toradol prior to the game since the area still hurts from the trauma (hence the X-ray on Wednesday to rule out any structural issues).

Felger also said his source didn't (or couldn't) specify which knuckle on Tom's thumb it was, or if it was on the outside of one of the knuckles or the inside. Felger speculated that it it was on the inside, or palm side of the knuckle closest to the hand, it might be rough holding the football. It would be harder to bandage, and he could get grating, aggravating effect over and over, etc.

FWIW, Felger said he was looking for a second source that had the info before he'd mention it. After 30 minutes or so, apparently he couldn't find a second source, so he divulged.

He called Jax a tomato can over and over and predicted a Patriots win whether with Brady, even at 50%, or with Hoyer. Don't know if I agree with that.

Interestingly, as I noted upthread (post 967), when I tore my hand, it was due to a soccer ball being kicked just as I reached for it. The ball was jammed between my pinky finger and ring finger, causing the webbing between to split. Hence the 4 stitches (actually, 5 now that I think about it).
I'm not a doctor, but I wonder if they will pull the stitches out on Sunday, maybe use some Super-Glue instead. My recollection is that the most painful part of the recovery was the irritation anytime something brushed against the stitches.

Treating one hand differently from the other will lead to muscular imbalance. It could take him months to recover his form from that.

Several of the reports are actually consistent with DRS’s piece—the difference seems to be about severity of the thumb injury.

If I’m Josh, I’d like to get a grip on exactly what Brady’s limitations are, and just how ham handed his play action might be. Fortunately, I think the offense has a strong grasp on the whole offense which should help keeps the paws of the Jax D-line at Bay. This is where, hopefully, the depth at running back will come in handy.
