When you consider the amount of technology contained therein, as a friend of mine has observed, you must admire the Chinese ability to manufacture modern electronics out of pressed dogshit.

S/O already. And some of those BF "deals" have been bettered in just the past week.Couperin47 said:Newegg continues to disappoint, this "leak" of Black Friday sales is pretty pathetic: Amazon matches or beats most of these deals:

G.SKILL 8 Gb DDR3 SO_DIMM 1600 $59

We seriously break the $70/8 Gb memory floor, better yet this stick is Cas9, 9-9-9-28 and 1.35v which is the current standard for good desktop memory, laptop memory like this is generally Cas11. The result is this stick is likely to work in almost any laptop, makes it easy to zonk any laptop to a great 12 Gb (and will probably work with 95% of laptops that spec to 8 Gb max, the chipsets they use can all handle 16 Gb, when they wrote the spec 8 Gb sticks didn't exist) and can improve performance if you're running only 4 Gb.

Panasonic is gone, the Samsungs are the best left, entry level 51" Plasma at the lowest price seen in quite a while.

Nick Kaufman said:Question. Is the CX 500 worth it? I mean the Bronze part. I usually look for platinum and gold.
Couperin47 said:
OK, the CX line is their 'constructor's line" ie: low end for volume builders: all bronze, not modular.
SumnerH said:
I have a CX bronze and it's definitely modular. The key is whether you get, say, the "CX 500 Bronze" or the "CX 500M Bronze"--the "M" versions are modular.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ALYORA4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 is the 430M, for instance (see the full title and description).
Modular saves you space and gives you more flexibility, but it's not a huge deal if you don't have a tiny case.
Couperin47 said:The only practical difference I've ever seen is that 2 years later, when someone wants to add something to their box that requires a new connector...most of my friends can't find the extra modular cables for love or money...

What, they don't have a computer parts bin? What kinds of philistines are these people?
EDIT: I still have a stupid proprietary Cambridge SoundWorks / Creative DIN connector card and cable for no good reason.

And as I understand it, they won't lower the price point much more, but will instead increase the capacity to maintain the price point.

I know, what's with these disorganized non-nerds ?...otoh, I think it explains why, whenever anything electronic they own goes sideways... guess who gets called first?....btw I finally discarded a carton of factory fresh 1.2 Mb 5.25 floppy discs a few months ago...secure in the knowledge nobody I knew still had a functioning drive..well, except me....

I'm this close to pulling the trigger on it, but for reference: on BF TD will have an OVC Vector 150 500g for $149. Hoping that causes a few sites to flinch and drop their prices even more. Supposedly last year, Newegg blinked and had some tremendous prices on components on Cyber MondayCouperin47 said:
The Intel 730 480 GB for $200 is a much better buy on a much better SSD, we can't adjust our frame of reference fast enough as SSD sale prices tumble...this is a good thing....

Basically the lowest price level, don't want to go past $250, so even a Celeron or AMD is fine. Obviously I would want to get as much of a machine as possible. So far I've ID'd a Toshiba at Amazon (with Celeron) and Walmart (with AMD) 500gb HDD, 4rb RAM, etc for 250 and a similar Asus at Bestbuy for 200. It isn't easy to identify stock these days with optical drives...any ideas? Oh and preferably something I could have in hand before the end of this month.

Tiger Direct:
240 GB PNY Optima Series 2.5" SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive & 8 GB PNY XLR8 DDR3 1600 (PC3-12800) Desktop Memory Bundle [tigerdirect.com]
Apply Code: YER147505 at checkout.
Price (after coupon): $179.99 - $20.00 PNY SSD Rebate [highspeedbackbone.net] - $40.00 PNY RAM Rebate [highspeedbackbone.net] = $119.99 AR + Free Shipping
The Hanley on the cake: today only visa checkout takes another $30 off of a $150 purchase.
Unless you don't like rebates, which is understandable.......

There are several "$10 off $100" and "$15 off $100" coupons from TigerDirect available too. Details are here.
Today's price point: TD has ADATA and PNY Optima 480s in the $150-155 range after rebates and VCO discount (neither of which brand I'd prefer to buy).Couperin47 said:
Don't be. 120's are going to be $60-70 for the great brands, $100-110 for 240's and 480's at $200...waiting to save an extra 5 bucks will drive you nuts, when you see an Intel, OCZ, Samsung or Crucial that you like (btw all those brands I believe, with the exception of the Intel Cherryville series, are using controllers that do not play compression games so their specs remain the same irrespective of the type of data) with either a 3 or 5 year warranty as you desire... just buy the damn thing. Prices are NOT going any lower. If, unlikely, any Plextor models join this rush to the bottom, they also have great performance and 5 yr warranties.
