Not even close in slow mo, the ball was moving as his hand comes down, which is not down.

The ball can begin to move before he loses possession. Why do you guys keep insisting that any movement is key? It's when he loses control that counts.

Stopped frame on the play shows the ball still gripped to his side with his full forearm down.

No, it's not. It's when the ball starts moving if the ball comes out. Mike Carey just confirmed, though not in a very eloquent manner.

Is that a rule? You can't tackle a guy on the ground, you have to touch him?

This is really becoming unwatchable. Of course people are scared to tackle Hillman, they'll get a flag.

Hillman was getting up to start running again. It was an absurd call.

The only thing that is stopping this Denver team is either injuries or weather.

The ball began being stripped from his body before his forearm hit the ground.  Ergo, that's when he began losing control.  Ergo, he did not have control of the ball when he was down.

Well, that was inevitable as soon as the fumble was overturned.
5 of the first 7 games for Denver are at home, when the weather is ideal in Denver. In other words, as the weather gets bad in Denver later in the season, Peyton will be on the road, not playing in cold and snow. A bad referee call in Denver's favor is SOP.

The NFL will do anything it possibly can to make certain Peyton has the optimal chance to win that second ring. Anything.

Why didn't that Denver LB get a flag for flying in and hitting Oliver when he was already tackled and on the ground?  These refs are clueless.

Yeah, well I have Sanders and Manning.

Not sure why you guys are upset about the Hillman personal foul though.  If you lead with your helmet, and hit a guy on the ground in his helmet, you are going to get a personal foul every single time.  That was about as straight forward as it gets.  Add on the fact that the guy was a receiver, and not yet a "runner" and it's even more straightforward.  That was a complete no brainer.

Looked like he hit him in the shoulder pads and maybe glanced his helmet. I don't think he's still a "receiver" at that point either. He had possession of the ball for a while, and had started the process of getting up to run.

Exactly. AFC Championship was subzero in 2012; last year it was 75 degrees. FWIW, they are predicting a huge snow season for the mountains this year out here. Come on, Old Man Winter!

Right, and when the ball starts moving out of his arm, he's losing possession.
Look at the photo I linked to in my edit above.

He still had possession with his elbow down. It doesn't matter if it had started moving if he still had a grip on it tight to his ribs.

Of course the still shot is going to make it look like he had possession, but once the ball starts moving he's losing possession. That's how the rule has been interpreted since I can remember. Mike Carey just said as much.

Doesn't matter, though, this is a slaughter.

I agree with you but do you think the reply was conclusive enough to overturn the ruling on the field?

That's OPI, but at least it was close. Welker is early blocking on like half of those.

Anyone else notice that Denver gets a home game on Thursday the week and a half before they play the Patriots? That is probably just a coincidence that Denver gets the mini bye before they play the Patriots.

Meh, San Diego on short rest is no fun either. And the game is in New England.

This game tonight is far more important to Denver and they have to play it on short rest after a Sunday night game.

This game is the shittiest scheduling for Denver all season. I highly doubt they were glad to see it when the schedule came out.

Sick catch

When the pats have a big lead like this, the refs can't wait to throw the flag...

They seem to like the Broncos to be ahead...

And smart. Denver is light years ahead of every other AFC team.
Well, it's also a Thursday Night Game and Denver is playing at home.

The NFL should do a version of that gag-inducing "No More" promo only instead of being about domestic violence it should be about Thursday Night Football.
