Perhaps you should have held your praise for one more inning.I'm impressed with Houck so far tonight. One homer is nothing. Well, it's something, but it's not horrible. Now, if the Sox could only score a run or three....
I’ve seen this all year. I can’t stand them but I give them their due. They are a very good team, far better than the Red Sox.The Baltimore Orioles do literally every part of baseball better than the Red Sox. Every single part.
Can you get a job with the Sox? Apparently, they don't have the resources to gather this information.Houck really can't get through the order a third time, can he?
Career:
1st time: .196/.283/.276/.559
2nd time: .264/.326/.385/.710
3rd time: .272/.362/.556/.917
Tonight:
1st time: bb, k, 1b, F8, P2, k, F9, k, 1b - 2-8, 0 runs, 1 bb, 3 k
2nd time: 4-6-3, 2b, 6-3, HR, k, 3U, 6-3, 1-3, 6-3 - 2-9, 1 run, 0 bb, 1 k
3rd time: 1b, 4-3, bb, 1b, k, 2b, 1b - 4-5, 4 runs, 1 bb, 1 k
It just explodes that third time through the lineup. It may be time to just consider him to be a relief ace, a guy who can pitch multiple times a week, multiple innings, and be extremely effective in that role, because his ability to be a starter is massively compromised by his inability to get through the order a third time.
And on the pop up, at least one of the Red Sox runners would have been doubled offIf Rutschman were a So x batter there, he would have popped up the first pitch or struck out on three pitches outside the zone.
The major problem is that none of the Sox young pitchers, can get through the order a third time. Even Bello isn’t great (700/766/855).Houck really can't get through the order a third time, can he?

I'm totally fine with Houck being used as a starter this year. They needed to see what he can do. But at this point, it seems like there's enough information to go on for 2024 moving forward. Can you get a job with the Sox? Apparently, they don't have the resources to gather this information.
Yeah it's something Bello will have to improve on. But he's so good otherwise that it's ok. I think Houck is what he is, which is a tremendously capable reliever that should be able to give them 90-100 innings of excellent pitching. He's just not cut out to be a starter unless he adds some sort of weapon that he's not yet discovered. The major problem is that none of the Sox young pitchers, can get through the order a third time. I don’t disagree- but that leaves a 24 rotation of Bello and Sale. Maybe Pivetta?Yeah it's something Bello will have to improve on. But he's so good otherwise that it's ok. The fact they've got Holliday coming is truly scary.Baltimore has the best record in the American League and trail only the Braves for the best record in MLB. More to the point, they have the #1 farm team in MLB. Now thats a scary and even depressing thought.
it is depressing. They won’t be able to afford to keep all this talent, but the Sox will be looking up at them in the standings for the foreseeable future.Baltimore has the best record in the American League and trail only the Braves for the best record in MLB. I believe they also need to improve on when to take pitchers out of games, and which pitchers they pick to replace them. Cora needs to get some coaching to make him better in this regard. The Red Sox need to make improvements in pitching, hitting and defense. If they can make significant improvements in those areas. 2024 could be bright. Also baserunning,
Check out the Strike 1 call on ValdezWhat the fuck on that 1st strike call.

Semi-serious question here: What if the ump decides he's not going to call what the system tells him to call?Umps are daring MLB to institute ABS system next year with how they are blowing easy calls

Thanks alot guys. Good thing I have a huge, unopened bottle of whiskey handy. The fact they've got Holliday coming is truly scary.
This is superb blather, kudos.I know the last couple of weeks have been frustrating, but I choose to look at the positive. They have given the front office and coaching staff a very clear vision of a blueprint going forward.
