Not a whole lot of news lately, eh?
plenty. Anderson is supposedly even better in coverage than Collins. Justin Jones could be a real sleeper at 6'8" and has gotten much better at blocking. KT still very inconsistent. James White most consistent rookie in camp.

Oh yeah, it's real. MAKE IT HAPP..... well, just for the pure comedic value.

The New England Patriots worked out free agent quarterback Brady Quinn on Monday, according to a league source.

Quinn, who was hired Thursday by Fox Sports to be an analyst, said during an appearance on "The Dan Patrick Show" on Friday that he worked out with a team this week, though he did not reveal which one it was.

As it turns out, it was the Patriots, whose offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels, has experience with Quinn during their time together in Denver in 2010.

WTF Ridley: http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/new-england-patriots/post/_/id/4765566/what-we-learned-from-sirius-on-patriots

The 5-foot-11, 220-pound Ridley had a notable comment regarding his offseason diet and coming into camp in better shape: “Obviously that didn’t go too well. Coach still has me in there in ‘Fat Camp’ and running and trying to get this weight off me.”

You're in your contract year. Team just drafted James White, you're trying to cement the idea that you're the bell horse RB, and you come in bad enough shape to be in the "Fat Camp"?

Hey KFP! Remember when we had that serious debate between Ridley vs. Demarco Murray? I think it's safe to say we nailed that one.

Wahhh!!!! Wahhh!!!!

Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Cary Williams called the New England Patriots cheaters and said he doesn't want to practice against them next week.
"I'm trying not to go into details about it or disrespect that organization, because I give that organization all the credit in the world," Williams told Philadelphia reporters. "But one fact still remains. They haven't won a Super Bowl since they got caught."
The Patriots' history with Spygate is still lingering as far as Williams is concerned.
"They're cheaters," Williams said. "I know you're going to be looking at the (Eagles practice) film when we go out there. We'll be watching film of them. "I don't want to show them my cards. That's just me."

I love when people preface a comment like that with "I give them all the credit in the world/love them/can't take away what they've done/blah blah blah."

What I do not understand is that you never know when you will be looking for a job. Why burn bridges? It's not just the Patriots, it might someone formerly associated with the Pats or currently associated who goes somewhere else who resents the comment.

Professional athletes aren't very smart, and football players suffer frequent blows to the head.  It's not that difficult to understand.

Chances look good that we see Kraft and his woman in the next Step Up. Move over Brangelina, there's a new power couple coming.

Has Garrapollo really looked that bad? Heh.

He has looked bad, but not as bad as your spelling of him.

It's Garoppolo. No a's one a and two p's.

P.S. I should know how to count vowels if I'm going to call someone out for spelling mistakes.

Matt Miller of Bleacher Report has his preseason Power Rankings out and predicts each team's schedule by wins and losses.  He has the Patriots ranked #3 and going 13-3 behind Seattle and San Fransisco at 14-2.  FWIW, he has Indianapolis ranked #4 going 13-3 and Denver #6 going 12-4.

Here is Miller's take on the Patriots.  He has them starting off 11-0 then losing 3 of their last 5 games(losses at GB, at SD, and at NYJ).

It has become anti-climatic each preseason placing the New England Patriots high in the rankings, but they belong here each season. And in 2014 you could make the argument they need to be even higher.
Bill Belichick's team was one game away from another Super Bowl last year, and to get over that hump they beefed up on defense in the offseason. In are Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner at cornerback, and the team is banking on them being able to go toe-to-toe with Peyton Manning's wide receivers in Denver.
The offense will again be good—especially if the Patriots can finally get a full season from Rob Gronkowski. Tom Brady has become a bit of a checkdown artist, but adding Gronkowski and Danny Amendola back to the field will make that an effective strategy. The run game will be a key, though, and both Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen could have big seasons.
If the secondary comes together quickly, the Patriots have the talent to make a serious run. But don't they always?

Here's Miller's take on Denver.

The Denver Broncos won the AFC last year and added DeMarcus Ware, Aqib Talib and T.J. Ward. So why are they ranked No. 6 overall heading into the season?
Because the schedule is that much tougher, and the defense may have big names, but they have to prove it on the field together first. There is no guarantee that Ware will be back to his old ways after missing time with an elbow injury last year and already getting hit with a lower-leg injury this summer. Ware, at 32 years old, cannot be thought of as a sure thing anymore.
Yes, the offense will be great as long as Peyton Manning is healthy, but look at this schedule. The Broncos open with their first eight games against teams with legitimate playoff hopes this year—and many of them among the league's best defenses. Manning will be great again, but holding up against such a loaded schedule over the long haul will test this team.
Speaking of the long haul, that Week 4 bye may be a curse for the older Broncos. Going from Week 5 all the way through the playoffs would be a brutal schedule for Manning, Ware and other veterans.
Will the Broncos be good again? Of course. Will they win the AFC West? Easily. But they don't look like the superpower many expect them to be.

Miller's take on Indy

The Indianapolis Colts may not be the fourth-best team in football, but they're in the conversation as a top-tier team, and they are blessed with a comparatively weak schedule on paper. Thank you, AFC South.
The Colts have six very winnable games within the division and also close out the season with a winnable stretch of six games. The record from the Colts this year could be the NFL's best by virtue of the schedule-makers.
That's not to take anything away from the talent here. Andrew Luck leads an offense that can score in bunches (ask the Kansas City Chiefs) and will be even better with a healthy Reggie Wayne and Dwayne Allen. The run game needs to get going (hello, Trent Richardson), but the team seems convinced that will happen.
The defense got better by adding edge defender Arthur Jones and D'Qwell Jackson in free agency. The two additions could be the difference in the AFC as the Colts look to keep up (and overtake) the Broncos and Patriots.

Jeff Howe on 98.5 TSH: "Revis looks better than advertised.  He looks to be the best corner in football if not the Defensive Player of the Year."

On Collins: "Jaime Collins had added enough weight that he looks the part of a 3-down linebacker.  He still is athletic as can be.  In the 4-3, he'll be the WLB but I can see him and Hightower being interchangeable.

On the SS position: "It will be Duron Harmon unless something drastic happens.  They've given him the bulk of the reps with the 1st team.  We've seen what Chung can be and we've seen Tavon Wilson.  This is Harmon's job.  He's added 5-7 lbs. of muscle to be a harder hitter.  Told him they're going to pick on him and his response was Bring it On.  I thought Harmon played well last year and let's see him in a full-time role."

This is the first season in a long time where I'm more pumped up to watch the D than the O.
Also seems like there is more tude/swagger down there than we've seen in awhile. Hope that's true, that it translates to the field, and that it infects the entire team. I want to see a hungry NEP again.

No Gronk, Hooman, Bolden, or Stork sightings at practice today.

Hooman situation is getting worrisome. He's a veteran so not sure how much he'll take to get back into things, but the TE position is thin as is.

Good news -- Justin Jones has had moments in camp and may make him this year's UDFA to make the squad. He's got the size and length to either inline block or pass catch. Much rather get him on the team rather than a retread like DJ "Stone Hands" Williams or Asa "Wish I was Ben" Watson.

Volin certainly has been on the binkywagon for the rookie: http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2014/07/28/justin-jones-could-big-surprise-for-patriots/DOZucfWtBAkjsgab4EDVoO/story.html

Not only does Jones look like a good bet to make the 53-man roster, but it’s possible that Jones makes more of an impact on the field this year than any of the team’s nine draft picks.

That's high praise. I'm betting on White to have a much bigger impact than any other rookie, including Easley, but hope Volin's binky comes through.

Gronk hasn't been partaking in team drills right?  It's not that surprising that he is not playing the live scrimmages either.  Doubt he plays much in the preseason games at all.  There is nothing to see here.
