Yay. When my team doesn't win, I like new teams winning.

The WCHA announced Saturday that the WCHA Final Five will be played at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich., for the 2013-14 and 2015-16 seasons and will return to the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn., for the 2014-15 and 2016-17 postseasons.
In addition, the conference also outlined its revised playoff format.
The top eight teams in the final regular-season standings will play in a best-of-three first-round series at the home site of the top four finishers, followed by the four first-round winners advancing to the WCHA Final Five the following weekend, which would consist of two semifinal games on the first day of the event followed by the Broadmoor Trophy title contest on day two.

I'm going to go cry now...or actually finish my project. Probably the latter.

They do it to avoid conflicting with the basketball final fours, don't they? I agree, it sucks balls to wait two weeks.kenneycb said:Why can't they adjust the season so there isn't a two week break between the regionals and the Frozen Four? That's always annoyed me since it kills any momentum.

mabrowndog said:I'm sure that's a big part of it, but I'd rather see them add another week to the hockey regular season, or delay the start of conference tournaments by a week.
then they should also work to not conflict with the regionals (and conferences with rounds 2-3). That's actually in some ways more of a conflict, because of more games going on.Red(s)HawksFan said:They do it to avoid conflicting with the basketball final fours, don't they? Yes, ESPN3 is online(watchespn.com). You can just hook up your computer or iPad to the TV with a simple cord. It's good quality video.Doug Beerabelli said:Dumb question, I'm sure. ESPN 3 is internet site, correct? My TV has wifi, but no browsing capabilities in itself. What's the best way to be able to browse on such a TV? Roku?
Also hoping out glimmer of hope the QU/Canisius matchup will be put on an actual TV channel in my cable area (I live 20 minutes from QU, 20 minutes from ESPN in Bristol). Something tells me ESPN will screw me over on this.
At least it's re-airing on ESPNU at 11:30.

http://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2013/03/25_quinn_picked_to_be_next_bu.phpDavid Quinn, a former Boston University Terrier and first-round NHL Draft pick, will be named the new head coach at his alma mater, sources have confirmed to CHN. Quinn will be introduced at a news conference Tuesday.
Boston University made quick work in hiring Quinn after long-time coach Jack Parker announced his retirement two weeks ago. Quinn edges out a number of other prominent Boston University graduates in the coaching ranks, including long-time current BU assistant Mike Bavis.
Quinn will remain with the Avalanche until the end of the season, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie. The regular season ends April 27. The Avalanche are currently last in the Western Conference.

Well, BU already has 6 guys coming in for the next class. I'm sure he can give them a call and reassure them of their place, but I doubt that things will change between now and when they enroll. I'm sure he'll take steps to set up his staff and everything. I don't think it's as big a deal as it would be in football.mabrowndog said:Maybe someone more in the know about the calendar and regimen of a Hockey East head coach can help me out here. Wouldn't it behoove the Terriers to have him in the fold for the next month instead of twiddling his thumbs as an assistant for a last-place NHL club? Wouldn't there be some scouting/recruiting/PR/hiring work to get done?
mabrowndog said:I wouldn't mind that either. My preferred alternative would be for CBSSN, NBCSN or FoxSports1 to gain the TV contract for the NCAA hockey postseason. But that ain't happening anytime soon.
ESPN is serving too many masters in March & April, with the men's basketball conference tournaments, the entire women's hoops tournament, and the NIT all prioritized above hockey. Hell, for the past few years they've had late-running or overtime regular season lacrosse games on ESPNU that preempted portions of the afternoon hockey playoff games. This year, 2 lax games will once again precede the hockey coverage on ESPNU this Saturday. ESPN does this because they can, and the NCAA has little or no say in the matter.
The ESPN/NCAA TV deal was scheduled to end following the 2011-12 season. But in December 2011 the NCAA decided to re-up on a 12-year extension through 2023-24. Why? Well, the Worldwide Leader likely held the NCAA hostage. The contract covers a multitude of sports -- pretty much everything but football and NCAA men's hoops. I'm thinking ESPN's pitch went something like this: "If you want us to provide a platform for all the other worthless crap, and to continue giving top billing to college lacrosse, women's softball, and the utterly unwatchable shitshow known as women's basketball, don't even THINK about saying no. It's all or nothing, and here's our price. Take it or leave it. And as far as hockey goes, we no longer give a crap about the NHL, so your ice sports will suffer the fate of association. We'll air it where we want, when we want, and then decide whether to relegate it to dial-up internet streaming. You don't like it? Tough shit. Now sign the fucking papers and get the fuck out of our offices."
With CBSSN still in its infancy, Versus still weeks away from its re-branding as NBCSN, and FS1 not even an announced entity, the NCAA apparently had little choice and nowhere else to shop ESPN's "offer". The WWL exerted its leverage, and the NCAA buckled.
