To play devil's advocate for a moment, I'm the last person to defend SAS because I think he's a complete moron and I'm so tired of his race baiting crap.  But couldn't it be a legit question to ask why the marquee player of the SB champs isn't attending?  I'm not suggesting it's about politics or race, even though Brady is supposedly a conservative.  Regardless of who is president I think the biggest star on the team should be there.

But regardless. Stephen totally sucks and I too don't understand how he still has a job.

I think it's reasonableto ask "Where was Tom Brady?"

Any wild speculation after it though...

So we're on the same page.

It almost feels silly complaining about anything Smith has to say about Brady.  This is  guy who has now repeatedly blamed the victim in domestic abuse cases.  That he still has a job is absolutely appalling.

That finals was awesome and screw you for calling it "lol".  :p

Why do you care if they show a video game tournament? They show plenty of silly stuff. I watched curling the other day.

Curling is actually a fuckin' sport, for one. eSports people belong in camps.

Yeah, all those cries for political correctness ring hollow when you say something like that.

I'm getting pretty close to suspending people for complaining about political correctness. :)

I certainly didn't say camps in which they could concentrate, that's for damn sure. But Andrew isn't very smart, so don't rip on him too hard. He's doing the very best he can, no matter how laughably shit that really is.

I don't remember exactly what it was but Fagan said some dumb shit during the Patriots playoff run and all I know is that I hate her. Although, it's nice that ATH was able to get another female besides Jackie that wasn't Jemile Hill.

I don't really recall exactly what it was, I think it may have been something about the Baltimore game and the eligible reciever drama where she said something like "we all know the Patriots love to cheat" or something to that tune,  but again I don't remember exactly what it was.

Did I miss a discussion about Jason Whitlock's "black Grantland"-cum-vanity project, theundefeated.com? In reading the Rolling Stone column linked in the Simmons thread, I came to read this article on Deadspin:

http://deadspin.com/how-jason-whitlock-is-poisoning-espns-black-grantland-1698683962

I mean...wow. Just wow. The Rolling Stone article describes Whitlock as "delusional to the point of locking all the doors to a house and burning it down with himself and his employees inside so he can use them as his warriors in the afterlife," which doesn't even sound like an exaggeration.

I mean, they decided to helm their 'Black Grantland' with a guy pretty much reviled across the board by his peers as a backstabbing shill for white ideas of what black men should be.  I doubt it will ever emerge enough from the black box of 'development' to be canceled with more than a two-line press release.  I do, however, think they're probably dumb enough to ask Rembert Browne to move over there now, and I wish I could be there when it happens.

So "Black Grantland" is Skipper's pet project? And what, Whitlock is manageable and reasonable but Simmons isn't? Can't wait until they gut Grantland to fund this.

Mike and Mike will be moving the show to NYC next year to allow more "sports and pop culture" guests to appear live and give it a visibility boost. The new studio will be right above Good Morning America's studio in Times Square. They will also be adding a "female voice" to the show, rumored to be Molly Qerim, of the NFL Network.

From the front page:

NOW
RIVERS RUN DRY IN ROAD GAME 7'S
Doc Rivers has never won a Game 7 on the road in his coaching career. In each of those three losses, Rivers' team was the lower seed (as they are in this series vs. the Rockets). The Rockets and Clippers meet in Houston on Sunday.

No shit, in each one?

Yes, that's the point.  They make a show of it like it is some sort of anomaly or statistical quirk.

Is it really worth getting up in arms over the fact that a network which caters to the lowest common denominator is pointing out a very obvious fact to that crowd? I guarantee you John Q Sportsfan didn't stop to consider that the lowest seeded team always plays on the road in Game 7. The writers/editors/producers of ESPN know this, so that little factoid is spoon fed to its readers/watchers.

I'm all for bashing ESPN, but this feels like nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking.

As opposed to our usual nitpicking for the sake of solving world crises?

But seriously (sorta), if the fact that ESPN serves the lowest common denominator was sufficient to exempt stuff from criticism, then I would have no life.

Well, if we're really nitpicking, the lower seeded team could play a game 7 at home, due to fairly stupid NBA seeding rules,.

If this year's Portland (4 seed) and Memphis (5 seed) series went 7 it would've been in Memphis.

You have a low threshold for "getting up in arms." It's a thread dedicated to the dumb things on ESPN's website and I saw a dumb thing and laughed about it and wanted to share it with my internet friends here.

I gave up on ESPN years ago. Short of an actual error, like the screen shot posted above where the website was blank, I don't even see them as a blip on the radar. I don't begrudge them their First Takes and other mind-numbingly stupid shit they produce anymore because I'm not their target audience. The only time my television is set to an ESPN network is when there's an actual sporting event on.

For the record, I only check this thread because some of the stuff posted here is actually funny.

Here's Howard's first article about Whitlock and the site. While I'd normally think he's conflicted, Whitlock's burned enough bridges (many of them ESPN ones ironically enough) that I don't think the conclusions are implausible in the slightest.

Funny that he started thinking all these things only after he got the Deadspin job, but before that thought Whitlock was a champ. Doesn't sound like Whitlock changed. Hmmm.....wonder what did? Just sayin...
