Agreed, and the bolded is an understatement. Tatum is durable. Bridges hasn't missed a game since at least high school.I like him a lot. BUT I'd immediately move him for 3-4 Firsts...Zach Lowe & Woj reported it, so it's probably legit
2nd in DPOY last year. Very Durable. Great contract.
I imagine DARKO likes him a lot since he's consistently a positive +/-, On-Off over massive minutes.
Somewhere, Bill Walton is shaking his head.Word is that Portland trainers have been pressured to shoot Payton up and convincing him to play through the pain. Whoa!
"Currently can't play for 3 months" seems like a pretty sizable failure. As a reminder, there is no such thing as "failing a physical" in the NBA or any professional sport.
Every player has something wrong that could theoretically cause them to fail.
There is only "this is much worse than we expected"
The point is that any NBA player can be failed if a team finds out something much worse than expected (apparently as in this case)."Currently can't play for 3 months" seems like a pretty sizable failure.
Well Anonoby is still a Raptor so likely most teams think three 1sts is too much. But Bridges is on that’s good deal for 3 more years where OG is a free agent in a year. But damn that sounds like sooo much to pay for a non superstarLots of talk of Anonoby for 3 firsts and Bridges is better.
Well, we have reporting that at least 1 team offerred 3 picks and had it rejected (MEM) because TOR wasn't interested in an all-picks deal.Well Anonoby is still a Raptor so likely most teams think three 1sts is too much. Take it for what it's worth, but Lowe is a very responsible reporter, and said that he had heard:Well Anonoby is still a Raptor so likely most teams think three 1sts is too much. But Bridges is on that’s good deal for 3 more years where OG is a free agent in a year. But damn that sounds like sooo much to pay for a non superstar
Is he the most talented athlete of all time that can't stay healthy?Damn, this guy can't stay on the court.

Pelicans All-Star Zion Williamson – sidelined since Jan. 2 with hamstring strain – re-aggravated the injury and is expected to miss additional weeks after All-Star break, David Griffin says.
Bo Jackson comes to mind, though that was more of a 1 time career altering injury. Is he the most talented athlete of all time that can't stay healthy?
Not even the most talented never healthy athlete in New Orleans Basketball history. He's a freak athlete, but AD was more talentedIs he the most talented athlete of all time that can't stay healthy?
Hmm, maybe the Blazers get docked a future 1st round pick and Warriors don't directly get this as that is a bit too generous compared to the relative infraction and production of players involved. But perhaps the league gives GS a "supplemental" draft pick between the 1st and 2nd rounds in either 2023 or 2024.
Only if Davis gets glued back together in time. They replaced one big man made out of glass (Davis) with another made out of paper-maiche (Williamson).
Well that clinches a playoff spot for the Fakers now.
Well, Bill WaltonIs he the most talented athlete of all time that can't stay healthy?
The league included language about keeping the possibility for additional compensation open. I presume this would occur if Payton can’t play this year. The Warriors have "decided" to keep the trade as it was. GP3, replete with a core injury, is staying in GS.
Seems like POR should be punished more than GSW compensatedThe league included language about keeping the possibility for additional compensation open. I presume this would occur if Payton can’t play this year.
No doubt but forcing them to give up additional compensation should Payton be unable to play would also serve as additional punishment.Seems like POR should be punished more than GSW compensated
AD was certainly more talented, but he also averaged 67 games per year in 7 seasons with NO. That's definitely injury prone, but also definitely not "never healthy." He was healthy enough to make 3 all-nba teams (all 1st team) and considered to have made enough of an impact to make the NBA 75 team (obviously partly due to his title in LA, but still). Not even the most talented never healthy athlete in New Orleans Basketball history. True, I thought he missed way more.AD was certainly more talented, but he also averaged 67 games per year in 7 seasons with NO. That's definitely injury prone, but definitely not "never health." Zion has just 114 games played in 3+ seasons - if he plays a dozen more games this year (doubtful), he'll be averaging fewer than half as many games per season as Davis played in NO.
https://www.cnbc.com/2023/02/13/nbc-sports-prepared-to-make-nba-bid.htmlComcast’s NBCUniversal is preparing to make a strong bid to win back National Basketball Association broadcast rights more than 20 years after the company lost them to Disney and Turner Sports, according to people familiar with the matter.
NBCUniversal executives have informed the NBA of their interest, said the people, who asked not to be named because the discussions are private. NBC Sports wants a package that would include playoff games to air on NBC’s broadcast network, two of the people said. Some regular season games could be exclusive to NBCUniversal’s streaming service, Peacock. The NBA could also decide to force media companies to simulcast all games on streaming to increase reach, the people said.
Wouldn't be surprising, though he did make it to the 2nd round of the contest 2 years ago.Haliburton would seem to have ideal mechanics for this type of competition with so little wasted motion. Tatum will be interesting. Hot Take: He struggles and finishes bottom two with Simons.
Ah I don’t even remember him being in it. Imagine if I smoked?Wouldn't be surprising, though he did make it to the 2nd round of the contest 2 years ago.
Agreed. I think Tatum has emphasized his body/strength, drawing fouls, and developing a handle to attack the rim over the last few years. His 3pt shot work has taken a back seat. Once he stops growing, Hanlan/Tatum will get back in the lab and fine-tune his 3pt stroke.Haliburton would seem to have ideal mechanics for this type of competition with so little wasted motion. Tatum will be interesting. Hot Take: He struggles and finishes bottom two with Simons.
Athletic says linked to HeatKevin Love getting bought out. Little odd since the Cavs are contenders, but I guess they are done with him.
I don't want him on the Celtics but for some reason I feel like he will somehow annoy us if he gets time on the Heat, 76ers, Bucks, etc.
I’m all for downplaying the “this player is toast” angle when a veteran gets lost in a bad situation. I’m not downplaying this however…..Kevin Love is freakin toast!Kevin Love getting bought out. Little odd since the Cavs are contenders, but I guess they are done with him.

The article goes on to speculate that the Knicks might be one of the first targets given that its biggest shareholder, Silver Lake Management, already has deep ties with Abu Dhabi.(Bloomberg) -- Two of the world’s richest sovereign wealth
funds are interested in buying minority stakes in National
Basketball Association teams, according to people familiar with
the matter, in the latest example of how oil money from the
Persian Gulf is pumping up values in global sports.
Executives at Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala Investment Co. and Qatar
Investment Authority have expressed their interest in NBA
ownership and are actively hunting for a possible match, said
the people, who requested anonymity as the discussions are

I caught a college basketball game on Fox, they use the song there.NBC is aggressively bidding for the NBA rights

If they win the rights and do not bing back the NBA on NBC theme song it will be a travesty

One of the weirder crossovers, "Roundball Rock" was recently used for between segment promotions on...AEW Dynamite, WWE's erstwhile competition in pro wrestling. I think they've stopped using it, because it was so odd compared to the typical rock and rap tracks they would use.I caught a college basketball game on Fox, they use the song there.
From the article:I can see the NBA approving SWFs of unsavory governments as minority shareholders. I can't see them approving a sale to them as a new owner. Maybe if it were Norway, then sure, but the NBA's fan base is liberal and politically active, they wouldn't stand for that and it would cost the owners more than it would gain them.
While I agree that many SWFs have problematic holdings/people or are the arms of odious governments, its pretty common knowledge. Yet the governors approved them as potential buyers regardless. The prospect of NBA ownership became possible late last
year after the league’s Board of Governors approved a rule
change to allow sovereign wealth funds to buy as much as a 20%
stake in teams. Previously, such funds could only do so through
indirect exposure.
I thought you had to be Trump’s Son-in-Law to get this kind of action. When people talk about contracts and franchise values, its important not to just look at recent examples of transactions to gauge the market but also consider other factors like inflation or new market entrants.
You want to see another leg up in player salaries and franchise values?
This is from a subscription piece on Bloomberg titled "NBA Teams Become Target for Gulf Sovereign Wealth Funds"
The article goes on to speculate that the Knicks might be one of the first targets given that its biggest shareholder, Silver Lake Management, already has deep ties with Abu Dhabi.
IMO, this has the potential to shift league economics more than people think as these funds tend to follow one another.
As per the professional golf incursion by Saudi’s LIV, there are even more obnoxious amounts of money out there. It will eventually be made available as in Rollerball to the players, and especially to the owners.I’m cynical that some members of both groups will be able to resist. I’m hopefully to old to see it but that money will bring unavoidable and currently unforseeable changeI thought you had to be Trump’s Son-in-Law to get this kind of action.
This technology has a great future in the porn industry. So apparently we need everyone on this forum to upload pictures of themselves before next season...
