The obsession with going for it on fourth down has reached the point of diminishing returns. The play was there. Officials missed the DPI. Which happens — non-calls are part of the game. But I can’t say McDaniel did anything wrong
Between his sunken eyes and McDaniel sounding like he’s downed 17 Red Bulls on 4 hours of sleep, it’s a worrisome situation.Sirriani looks like he is dying on the sideline how is no one on the broadcast mentioning this. Dude looks like he hasn’t slept in a month.
I was a Vikings fan as a kid, because a) they played in a foot of snow b) they had kick ass uniforms c) they had Fran Tarkenton, who ran around when no one else did and it was really fun, and Page and Marshall and all that d) they played in a foot of snow e) they had kick ass uniforms.Absolutely. The traditional Vikings unis are perfection, but Nike had to go and mess them up.
I walked 20+ miles through Philly this morning, and I couldn't go more than a block without running into someone sporting a kelly green retro jersey. (Mostly Hurts, but also a number of Reggie White ones.) These are the Eagles best unis, although I prefer the white jersey version.po
One thing missing from the Buddy Ryan era---they all wore black cleats with these unis back then.
There is not a better month for sports. I fucking love October. That pick came at the exact moment as a crucial K with the bases loaded to end the astros 8th. Nothing like October.
Yeah thats a play that our WR would turn into a tipped INTAmazing catch by Brown.
Philly having zero penalties is kind of crazy.
That made no sense. A win because their corners will be back?Ah yes according Chris Collinsworth, this is really a win for the Phins
Thought he was having a stroke for a second, but then I remembered he is firmly in his late career Tim McCarver ‘a walk is as good as a home run’ era.Ah yes according Chris Collinsworth, this is really a win for the Phins
The ball was literally uncatchable. There was no chance to get a fingertip on it."A series of egregious calls" and he links one? And I bet the call he links is graded by the NFL as 100% correct. The NFL tells their officials to be "extremely liberal" with the definition of catchable. If there is any chance that any player could get even a finger on the ball if they were uncontacted, whether inbounds or out of bounds, it's catchable. If you aren't sure, it's catchable. If it doesn't land in the stands, it's catchable. The NFL wants to err on the side of punishing the defense who potentially makes illegal contact. "If in doubt, foul. Stopping touching the receivers".
So really on this play you are just judging the severity of the contact. It certainly wouldn't be enough in the college game, but the NFL doesn't want their receivers touched. Period.
To their credit, they have demolished the worst teams in the NFL, which is a skill in itself. But when they play a team with any kind of talent, they lose.Miami is a fraud.
Is there any evidence that winning more than your share of games against top teams is a good predictor of playoff success? I thought W-L record and point differential were both better predictors. Which means there’s a lot to be said for consistently pummeling shitty teams. (Which the Bills failed to do yesterday, incidentally.)To their credit, they have demolished the worst teams in the NFL, which is a skill in itself. In summary, they are frauds.
There is probably not any evidence, because the NFL playoffs are such SSS. The 2010 Pats demolished all the playoff teams they played... then lost in the first round. The 2018 Pats lost to a bunch of crappy teams... and won it all.Is there any evidence that winning more than your share of games against top teams is a good predictor of playoff success? The benefit of any doubt goes to the offense. If there is a non-zero chance that anyone on Earth could have made a play on the ball if completely untouched, it's catchable. If Usain Bolt could have gotten there, it's catchable. And it doesn't have to be catchable in bounds, because players are allowed by rule to bat or throw the ball back into the field of play where a teammate can catch it. The ball lands at the limit line, so it's four yards out of bounds. Can an NFL player completely untouched jump four yards? Probably! Remember the standard: Non-zero chance anyone on Earth could get there if untouched. Any doubt goes to the offense, because they're not the ones who made illegal contact. The ball was literally uncatchable. There was no chance to get a fingertip on it.
So the NFL should change the rule. Because what you're saying is the NFL is actively telling the refs not to follow the rule book. So either you're Baghdad Bob or the NFL needs to change this rule, because what is the point of a rule if it's not going to be followed and, instead, it goes on vibes?
Pummeling shitty teams will add to the differential. Is there any evidence that winning more than your share of games against top teams is a good predictor of playoff success?
