That was a clear travel on that Duke buzzer beater, yeah? Up and down before he released the shot.

I don't think they can but I could be wrong. I can't believe the announcers didn't mention it. Seemed obvious on the first replay.

Well the refs completely fucked up the out of bounds even after reviewing it, giving uva an extra possession, so what the fuck ever

have all lost. 1, 14, 21, and 24 still in action (14 vs 24). So at least 9 of the top 25 are gonna lose today

Are you referring to the one with 1:20 left? If so, Duke would've had less than a second on the shot clock. I don't think there's any kind of conspiracy, but saying it handed UVA an extra possession (or comparing it to Allen possibly traveling) is a little disingenuous.

This was the correct call anyway, by the time the ball touched anything out of bounds, the shot clock had expired.

Wonder how long Villanova will remain at #1. They look good, but, are they really a #1 team?
You can insert whoever is the new #1 each week into this statement.

Yesterday alone there were 16 Top-25 teams playing lower ranked or unranked opponents. 9 of those 16 lost with 8 of them coming against unranked opponents.

This is going to be a fun March!

Other schools really need to up their games at paying off the refs. Forget paying the athletes to come to your school, the key to the titles is having the refs in your pocket

the play broken down beautifully. Duke can always count on the officials.

They could have just as easily called a foul on the penetration, travel prior to the shot, and travel from landing prior to releasing the shot. The whistle isn't going to be blown on a final possession shot at the buzzer unless it is clear and blatant in real time.....having it needed to be replayed in slo-motion to see a violation occurred pretty much sums that up. It was officiated properly imo.

Not sure if anyone watched, but last night ESPN broadcast the entire Michigan-Ohio State game from the worst camera angle I've ever seen ("floor seat") last night in order to ... well, I'm not sure what they were trying to do.

It was the single worst viewing experience I have ever seen and I turned it off after 5 minutes. An abortion of an experiment.

GJGE ESPN.

Was the entire game shown from that angle? The replay was on UK TV here this afternoon, and I had it on in the background; I noticed they were going to that ground-level camera a lot, but I didn't think it was always there. (It did make me muse that courtside seats aren't all they're cracked up to be.)

Courtside seats at or near midcourt are the best. You get a pure feel for the size, athleticism, and speed of the players. Watching on tv from a camera at that angle.....not so much.

Monmouth was mentioned a lot earlier in the year because of their bench, and they'd knocked off some really good teams. I've been following them closely and they're 22-5 now, with a MAAC rivalry game tonight versus Iona. 10:00 on ESPNU if anyone needs a game to watch. A fun team and atmosphere.

As for Shaka...agreed he's done quite a good job. I thought he would do well, but I wasn't expecting this success so quick after the transition.

Unbelievable Duke - Carolina game Wednesday night (I'm in London so I get the games delayed). Roy Williams has hit a new low of coaching. Not only did he blow the time outs (he said after the game that he apologised to his players for not calling one - he had 3! - for the final possession with 20 sec left but then incredibly said he'd probably do the same again the next time) but he had the game in hand.

With 10 min to go Brice Johnson had 27 points and 18 rebounds and was being guarded by Marshall Plumlee who had 4 fouls. If Plumlee fouled out they'd put in the inexperienced and ineffective Chase Jeter. So does Carolina just keep going to Johnson? No - they abandon what works and decide to take contested jump shots the rest of the way and finished the game 1 for 13 from 3 point range. Brice finished with 2 points and 1 rebound in the final 10 minutes.

Old Roy seems to have lost it....

(Great win for Duke though - will be interesting to see if Pitino takes advantage of their very depleted lineup today)

This game is why I am apathetic about Ingram in a C's jersey. Sure he can create his own shot whenever he wants, but when he doesn't get touches he doesn't hustle, has horrible body language and basically does nothing else to help a team win.

but now that allen fouled out, Ingram will take every shot down the stretch

He has played a crap game but you have to remember he is dog tired, hasn't gotten any rest the last several games
he did this versus UNC, too. If he doesn't have the ball he dogs it, he gets beaten down the court, etc. I've seen him play like parts of four games, he can score, but does nothing else. he's a skinnier Melo without the post-up game (this isn't a bad thing, but that's the best comp I could come up with)

and a 19 year old is dog tied playing two 40 minute games in 4 days? whatevs. he just sucked today

Well Ingram has played 38+ minutes in 7 out of their last 8 games so it wasn't just this week. I don't see the sulkiness, I do see him force it from time to time. He is not a player without flaws. I think he is gonna be a darn good pro, with a floor of say Tayshaun Prince and a ceiling significantly higher. YMMV

I think this is spot on. He played horribly today but when he's on - which is most games - he's far more than a scorer. His shot-blocking and defence in general is extraordinary. He rebounds well, especially on the offensive end. He's been more consistent this year than Simmons. It's just hard to see all that on the heels of his worst game of the year.

Ok this is priceless. In the jubilant locker room after Carolina's impressive demolition of Miami Old Roy responded to comments by CBS analyst Doug Gottlieb speculating that he would retire after this season.
This was Williams’ response to Gottlieb: “You have no freakin’ idea what you’re talking about.”

After that Williams took it to another level.

“That’s the guy,” Williams said, “that said that (who) couldn’t put his damn pants on the right way when he was playing at Oklahoma State.”
He was referencing a time when Gottlieb, as a player at Okla St in 99, played the first 8 minutes of the game with his shorts on backwards! Here's the link to the article and clip of the '99 KU - OKS game Props to Old Roy for calling him out and scoring a first class zinger!

Roy should have went full Boeheim and ripped him for credit card fraud.
The Boeheim-Gottlieb feud dates back quite some time. Gottlieb was a player at Notre Dame for a short amount of time, until he was caught stealing his roommates credit cards and booted from the program. After Gottlieb got the gig at ESPN, he called out Big East teams for having “fraudulent” schedules. Boeheim came back at Gottlieb, saying that the only type of fraud he knew about dealt with credit cards.
Gottlieb is a weird dude. I like the fact that he's not afraid to be critical, but he probably takes it a bit too far, which is somewhat understandable, as he has to fill time on his radio show that no one hears. There's a nice middle ground to being buddy-buddy with head coaches and being actively despised by two all-time greats.

I agree with this. I have watched pretty much every Duke game and I really haven't seen Ingram sulk or "dog it". I have seen him jog back on D but I think that's more due to the fact that there are only 6 rotation players and that he's one of the 2 people the offense goes through every single time. (Grayson Allen being the other).
Ingram is perfect for today's NBA. Has a crazy long wing span, high release on the jumper so it's hard to block, and very versatile on both ends

It funny. Maryland becomes a hot destination recruiting wise thanks to UA paying for all the aau crap. But Turgeon is awful. Always has been. They should be elite. But he can't handle the one and done mentality nor can he in game coach.

I think this is the worst year ive ever seen in college hoops. I watched nova v X and didn't see one nba player. 1 vs 5. Unc v Duke was at best bad quality but exciting outcome. These teams just are not good. I thought I was alone in thinking this but I heard bilas on sirius Friday afternoon and he said the field was way down and that up to 30 teams could win. Maybe that makes for a good tournament but cinderellas are cinderellas only when they play goliaths. George mason beating Uconn and their six nba players resonates more than mason beating Xavier

I looked at the nba draft lists. None of these top teams have lottery picks. I watched Ingram a few times. Hate the effort. Kid from Marquette? Ehhh. I like Murray from Kentucky a lot but ulis and skal are not nba players. Unc Brice is solid but not sure he is more than rotation player. Hield is fun but rest of team is crap more often than not.
I guess Kansas is best team. This might be year Villanova advances past second round because they are all vets and play hard all game. And that white PG won't shoot 12 threes this year. Iowa? Michigan st can be good when Valentine plays. Haven't seen enough. Arizona? Maybe Utah even though their guards don't impress. I like Virginia coach but not sure there is much skill. I watched them live v WVU and it was awful. Yet WVU is ranked 11?? Wow. They shoot 40% in lay up drills.

Good luck with picking a bracket. Or committee seeding this dreck. I know it's been headed this way for several years. I'm a Uconn fan and their 11 and 13 teams couldn't stay within 15 points of the 99 and 04 teams (and several other Uconn teams). Basically now if Kentucky duke Kansas and/or unc are down there aren't any programs that really have multiple next level players to step up consistently. But I think this year it's largely because there aren't many good first year players and those teams are not so great. Hopefully the NBA changes rules and need two years past high school graduation to enter. Who knows. But the game is bad now. I hope it gets better

The game is, without question, down this year.

But if you go back to last year's Final Four - Michigan State, Wisconsin, Kentucky, and Duke - those were 4 really good teams. All 4 would probably destroy anyone in the field this year. MSU was the worst of the bunch and still pretty good.

So I don't think it's a trend, just a down year.

To your point about UConn 99/04 - it was a different game back then in terms of early entries. Duke had never lost a player to early entry until after that 99 season, when they lost 3 sophomores. I mean that 99 team had Battier and Nate James and Maggette coming off the bench.

I agree with most of cc and t4w above, with the exception of Ingram's effort. The kid plays the whole game and out of position (he's not a 4, even in k's modern system). Whoever made the Prince-Durant spectrum comparison is spot on in my mind. He'll likely never be the scorer KD is but his defensive effort is far superior.

Really wish the nba/ncaa would follow the nhl example allowing drafted players to remain eligible. It's simply impossible to have a deep talent pool when the best kids are only around for one season. Granted I also have no interest in further enriching an organization as disgusting as the ncaa.

Austin Peay winning the OVC tourney as an 8 seed, and needing to win their final regular season game to get into the tournament, is awesome.
